Class jumping in high school is different from class jumping in elementary or junior high school. Skipping grades at SMU means you'll graduate faster, as long as you complete all the credits required to qualify for graduation. While you may not be able to skip a full grade, you may be able to graduate a semester early. You can achieve this goal, depending on the completion of your course credits.

Step 1. Talk to the principal or your guidance and counseling teacher (BK teacher)
Ask if it's possible to graduate faster and if anyone has ever graduated faster. This will help you plan and understand exactly what you need to do to graduate faster.
Step 2. Ask about enrolling in parallel classes or courses, so you can take some classes at your local college while you are still enrolled in high school
Completion of credits in these classes can count towards your college and high school years.
Step 3. Consider taking the SNMPTN or State Examination
These kinds of exams can be used to earn a high school equivalency diploma more quickly, allowing students to enter college or vocational colleges a few years earlier than usual.
Step 4. Consider homeschooling or online high school education. You can skip a year or more if you manage to maintain motivation.

Understand high school graduation requirements.
- How many course credits do you need?
- What subjects do you need to pass, such as math, Indonesian, English, chemistry, history, or something else?
Check how many course credits you can complete during the holiday season.
- Each school in each location has its own policy. Some provide two subjects each holiday, with one class available in each subject. Some provide two subjects, with two classes per subject.
- Find out what classes are open at your school during the holidays. Chances are "general" classes such as math (algebra, geometry), history, English, and Indonesian. You may be able to complete these classes during the holidays and take advantage of the school period to take classes that are not open during the holidays. Vacation classes are also a way to earn extra exam points by taking another popular supplementary class.
- Some schools in certain areas only provide grade improvement classes during the holidays. Ask if there are classes open during the holidays at other schools in your area so you can take extra classes.
- If your counseling teacher does not know about classes that are open at other schools, ask him or her to contact colleagues at those other schools for more information. You can also contact other schools yourself.
- You may be able to start taking high school classes during the school holidays before your first semester of high school begins. Make an appointment with the high school BK teacher at the beginning of the holiday season to make plans.
- Keep in mind that some vacation classes require a higher enrollment fee. You should discuss these costs with your parents and plan ahead.
Find out if you can take online classes. Many schools in various regions offer online high school classes. You also need to pay a fee.
Ask (bring an official letter from your school) that the classes you wish to take will be recognized by your own school
Consider the type of class you want to take before deciding to take it on vacation or online. Depending on your strengths, certain classes are better taken privately so the teacher can provide personal guidance and answers to any questions that arise.
Pay attention to the applicable prerequisite system. The prerequisite system may prevent you from taking classes at a higher level, so determine if you can meet those requirements. For example, math calculus classes would require completion of a pre-calculus math class as a mandatory prerequisite. However, you can skip pre-calculus classes if you can show the school that you've mastered the material, whether you're studying on your own or completing classes on vacation.
Ask for regular reviews and evaluations from guidance counselors on your educational progress.
Investigate the class requirements of your desired college. For example, many universities set a four-year class requirement in the field of a foreign language. Foreign languages are usually not taught in school during holidays or online classes, so you will need to learn a foreign language yourself and demonstrate proficiency in that language, at that college.
Keep your values up! Most high schools have several additional classes that allow completion of additional credits in the course of their education. Graduating early requires completing more credits than usual.
Tips
- Try not to take breaks in your education, even if it's allowed. Breaks don't add credit to you, and you should take advantage of the break to take extra credit.
- Look for classes that suit your needs without risking you falling behind or failing because they are too difficult. Don't worry if your friends laugh at you because you took difficult classes. They won't laugh anymore when you graduate early while they're still in high school.
- Ask for a trial program outside of high school. For example, some states in the US have pilot programs that allow you to test class-by-class that is not available at your high school. For example, the state of California has a C. H. S. P. E. program, which allows for a high school equivalency diploma if you achieve the required minimum grades.
- Ask your local college about course credit classes in the afternoon. Not only will you be able to graduate from high school faster this way, but you can also take college courses and thus graduate from college sooner later. Many high schools have special arrangements with the college regarding the classes that can be taken. Several US states, including California, Minnesota and Washington, allow high school students to take college classes under 11 credits per semester, free of charge.
- If you are enrolled in a private school or a smaller high school, you may not have much choice during the holidays. Look for other options at a larger high school in your city. Many high school students usually look for more choices of classes during the holidays.
- Don't force yourself to study too hard academically. Keep in mind that you will be taking many classes intensively. You may have to make sacrifices by not taking classes that are too difficult, because of course you don't want to spend another year in high school as a result of having to take classes that are too difficult. In the US education system, “Honors” classes may be more intensive than a college prep class or regular classes. Take the easier option if possible. Don't even try.
- Don't get involved in any issues, and don't talk too much.
