Steaming your face is a fun way to pamper yourself at the end of a tiring day. Steaming will help increase circulation in your face and open up your pores so you can wash away any dirt on your face. To steam your face, start with steam then use a mask to draw impurities from your pores and finish with a toner and moisturizer. If you don't have a lot of time, a steam bath has similar benefits. See Step 1 onwards to learn about these two methods.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Doing a Full Face Facial
Step 1. Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan
You only need a few glasses of water for this process. Boil water on the stove or in the microwave.
Step 2. Wash your face
While waiting for the water to boil, wash your face to remove any remaining makeup and dirt. Use a gentle facial cleanser and warm water. Removing make-up and dirt is a must before steaming your face as the steam will open your pores and any remaining dirt on your face can enter your skin and cause irritation or breakouts.
- Don't exfoliate your face before steaming it. This can cause irritation from the hot steam.
- After washing your face, pat it dry with a towel to dry your face.
Step 3. Pour the water into the bowl
Pour the water into a glass or ceramic bowl and place it on a towel. An important part of taking care of yourself is to beautify every grooming process so that if you have a beautiful bowl you can use it. However, if you are in a hurry, you can use an old pot of boiling water.
Step 4. Add spices or essential oils
You don't have to add anything to the steamed water, but you can add spices or essential oils to the water to make it even more special. The ingredients you put in the water will give off an aroma with various properties. You can also include herbal teabags instead of spices and essential oils. Try these variations:
- use lemongrass or peppermint for uplifting steam.
- use chamomile or lavender for relaxation.
- use peppermint or eucalyptus to warm up.
- use sandalwood or bergamot to relieve stress.
Step 5. Put your face over the bowl of hot water
Cover your head with a towel and place your face over the bowl of hot water. Do this process for ten minutes. Close your eyes and take a deep breath to open your pores.
Don't steam your face for too long or get too close to hot water. Heat can cause inflammation of the skin
Step 6. Apply the mask on the face
The next step is to use a mask to draw dirt from your open pores. You can use a clay mask for best results. Mix the mask with water then spread it on your face. Leave it for fifteen minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
- Instead of a clay mask, you can use honey for similar properties. You can also visit other WikiHow pages to make your own masks.
- If you don't want to use a mask, rinse your face with cold water after you're done steaming your face.
Step 7. Use toner to close the skin pores
Time to close your pores again! This is to prevent dirt from entering your pores. Using a toner after steaming your face will help your face look firm and fresh. Use a cotton swab to apply toner on the nose, forehead, cheeks and chin.
- Apple cider vinegar makes an amazing natural toner. You can try it!
- You can also use lemon juice as a toner. Try applying lemon juice to a few spots on your skin before using it all over your face. Some people may have more sensitive skin than others.
Step 8. Moisturize your face
The final step in this process is to apply moisturizer to the face to keep it hydrated. Steam can take moisture from your face and make it dry, so moisturizing is an important part of this process. Moisturize your face or you can try using coconut oil, jojoba oil, or argan oil. Pay close attention to the ingredients in the oil to ensure that the product is natural and free of harmful chemicals.
Method 2 of 2: Doing a Short Steam
Step 1. Turn on the hot water in the bathroom shower
Let it get very hot and steaming. This method not only steams your face but also your entire body. You will get a full body steam treatment!
Step 2. Wash your face while you wait
Wash your face to remove any remaining dirt and makeup, just as you would when you steamed your face.
Step 3. Stand and hold your face close to the steam for about five minutes
You don't need to cover your head with a towel because the steam is already trapped all over your bathroom. After five minutes, lower the temperature and then shower as usual.
Step 4. Apply the mask on your face while showering
You can use a drug store-bought mask or use honey to clean your pores. Use the mask after you finish steaming your face and then rinse it off at the end of your shower.
Step 5. Use toner and moisturizer
After bathing, dry your body and use toner and then moisturizer. You can apply moisturizer all over your body as the hot steam can dry out your skin.
Tips
- Use a facial cleanser after steaming your face to remove dirt while your pores are still open. Rinse with cold water to close your pores.
- Make sure there is no more makeup, dirt, and oil on your face. You can also clean your face with a cleaning cloth or tissue.
- Add 2-3 drops of tea-tree oil to hot water for acne-prone skin.
