There are many ways you can follow to make your own face cream at home, whether you want to live more frugally or live a more organic lifestyle. In addition to costing less than a store-bought face cream, you can also adjust the ingredients in the cream. Making face creams at home is easy to do and once you know the basics, you can make a variety of cream recipes.

Step

Method 1 of 3: Making a Basic Face Cream

Step 1. Place the first four ingredients in a heat-resistant jar or measuring cup

You will need 60 ml of almond oil, 2 tablespoons (30 grams) of coconut oil, 2 tablespoons (30 grams) of beeswax pellets, and 1 tablespoon (15 grams) of shea butter. For now, don't add vitamin E oil and essential oils right away.

Step 4. Remove the jar from the water and add the vitamin E oil

Use pot holders or oven mitts when removing the jars from the hot water. Place the jar on a heat-resistant surface. Let the mixture cool for a while, then add teaspoon of vitamin E oil and stir.

Bottled vitamin E oil is easier to measure, but you can also use capsules. Make sure you open or crush the oil-encasing capsules first

Step 5. Add 2-3 drops of essential oil if desired

You can use any oil you like. Start with 2-3 drops first, then increase the dose if necessary. Essential oils give a sweet and fresh fragrance to face creams. Some types of oil also have benefits for the skin, such as:

  • Acne or oily skin: lavender, lemongrass, palmarosa, peppermint, and rosemary oils
  • Dry or aging skin: lavender oil, palmarosa, rose, rose geranium
  • Normal skin: rose oil, rose geranium
  • Any skin type: chamomile oil, palmarosa

Step 3. Pour the mixture into a blender and let it cool for 1-1 hours

Make sure you use a blender that can withstand the heat (eg a glass blender). If you're using a plastic blender cup, let the mixture cool down first, then pour the mixture into the blender cup using a spatula.

If you don't have a blender, you can use a food processor

Step 4. Mix the ingredients slowly while adding the aloe vera gel

Turn on the blender on low speed. While the blender is working, slowly pour 240 ml of aloe vera gel into the mixture. Turn off the blender every now and then and scrape the walls of the blender glass with a rubber spatula to bring the mixture back together.

Use natural aloe vera gel. Do not use aloe vera juice or homemade gel

Step 5. Add 5-8 drops of essential oil

You don't have to add it, but essential oils give the cream a sweet fragrance. The right essential oil can also provide benefits for the skin. As an example:

  • Acne or oily skin: lavender, lemongrass, palmarosa, peppermint, and rosemary oils
  • Dry or aging skin: lavender oil, palmarosa, rose, rose geranium
  • Normal skin: rose oil, rose geranium
  • Any skin type: chamomile oil, palmarosa

Step 3. Add the tea to the mixture and brew it without heating

Remove the bowl from the pan and place it on a heatproof surface. Place a green tea bag in the melted wax and oil mixture. After that, brew the tea for 15 minutes.

Step 6. Store the jars in a cool and cool place

This cream is suitable for use in the morning and at night. You can use it for up to 3 months.

Tips

  • You can buy essential oils from the internet or health food stores. Do not replace essential oils with perfume oils or oils for making candles as they are two different products.
  • Beeswax helps stabilize the cream. If you don't have beeswax, you can use half a carnauba wax (palm wax), emulsion, or soy wax.
  • Only use beeswax that is 100% natural. If you can't get wax in pellet form, buy wax in blocks and grate them before use.
  • Store the cream in several smaller jars. Cream is easier to use with a smaller jar than one large jar.
  • Do not use candles that are designed to make ordinary candles because these products are usually mixed with other ingredients that are not safe for the skin.
  • Most home face creams last for several months. If the cream starts to smell or looks weird, throw it away immediately.
  • Do not add essential oils to the wax mixture while it is still hot. Otherwise, the beneficial substances in the oil may be damaged.

Warning

  • Make sure all equipment and jars used are sterile. If it gets dirty, you run the risk of contaminating the cream with bacteria.
  • Never use cream when your face is still dirty. The cream will only hold the dirt and trigger acne. Always clean your face and tighten the skin pores first.
