Cutting and pasting text in an email is very easy. You can right-click on highlighted text to open the action menu or use shortcuts on your keyboard, such as Ctrl+X to cut, Ctrl+C to copy, and Ctrl+V to paste. Additionally, there are many email providers that allow you to cut and paste text by simply highlighting the text, clicking on it, and moving it to a text editor. Follow the steps below to find out how to move text in an email!
Step
Method 1 of 3: Highlighting Text
Step 1. Open your email service provider
Find the text or image that you want to cut or paste. If you want to cut and paste text into an email, make sure that the draft of the email you want to insert text into is open. If you want to cut and paste text in an email to adjust the wording, make sure you've opened the email.
- When you cut text, you don't have to just paste it somewhere. Your computer saves the data you cut or copy automatically into a temporary clipboard. You can still paste that piece of text until you restart your computer or cut/paste something else.
- When you cut and copy text, if the Microsoft Word program is open, your computer's clipboard can save several pieces of text at once.
Step 2. Decide where you want to paste the text
Before you cut or paste something, specify the text you want to cut and where you want to paste the text. Read the email and determine where you can enter text. If you want to paste and combine text from other emails into one large email, you certainly don't want to place it at the beginning of an email without an opening paragraph or in the middle of a sentence. Determine the most effective place to place the new text and consider the words or sentences you need to edit so that the wording of the message doesn't sound awkward.
Step 3. Highlight the text you want to cut
To highlight text, left-click at the beginning of your selected piece of text, then press and drag the cursor to the end of the text. When you drag the cursor, the back of the highlighted text should be blue. Release the cursor when all of your selected text is highlighted.
If you want to copy the entire message, press Ctrl+A on a keyboard or Command+A on a Mac
Method 2 of 3: Crop Text
Step 1. Use keyboard shortcuts to cut text
On a PC, use the Ctrl+X shortcut to "cut" the highlighted text and save it temporarily on the computer's clipboard automatically. If you're using a Mac, press Command+X. To activate this shortcut, press the Control key (labeled as Ctrl) and the X key at the same time. The highlighted text will disappear.
- There are two Ctrl keys on the bottom row of the keyboard, to the right and to the left of the space bar. There are also two [command] keys next to the space bar on Apple keyboards.
- If you are using a smartphone (smartphone), use your fingertips to press the text you want to highlight. After you select the text, you can cut, copy, and paste it.
Step 2. Copy the text instead of cutting it
If you want to save the text on the clipboard to paste somewhere without deleting it, use Ctrl+C to copy the text. Remember, you can always copy text, but you can't cut text in certain apps. For example, you can't cut text from a read-only document or website, but you can cut text from a text editor or similar program.
Step 3. Highlight, click, and move the text to the location you want
With modern operating systems, you can drag and move text from one text editor program to another. If you use this method in a text editor, your selected text will be cut and pasted. If you use this method on a read-only document or site to an email editor, the text you selected will be copied and pasted. First, highlight the text you want to move. Then, left-click on the highlighted text, press and drag it down (keep left-clicking), and move the highlighted text to the location you want. When you release the left mouse button, the text you selected will be pasted.
Step 4. Right click on the highlighted text and select Cut
Move your cursor on the dropdown menu that appears and on that menu there are Cut, Copy, and Paste options. Selecting Cut, the highlighted text will be removed from its place. By selecting Copy, the highlighted text is copied, without having to delete it. You can't select the Paste option if you don't already have something copied on your clipboard.
You can only paste the text you last cut or copied. If you have multiple texts you want to paste, you can combine them and cut/copy them all at once or cut and paste them individually
Step 5. Click the /edit/ menu located in some of the email edit boxes
This method only works if you want to cut and paste text in one email. After highlighting the text you want, there will be an /edit/ option in the email edit box at the top of the email. Click /edit/. Select the Copy or Cut option on the menu. Move the cursor to the location you want, then click the /edit/ menu to paste the text.
Method 3 of 3: Paste Text
Step 1. Left click on the location where you want to paste the text
When you use a text editor, either in Microsoft Word or an email editor app, you'll see flickering vertical lines on your page of text. When you type something, a blinking line will indicate the text you are typing. The same will happen if you paste something. The pasted text will appear where the vertical line is currently blinking.
This information is especially useful if you are using shortcuts on your keyboard. You can also right-click on the location you want and select the "Paste" option in the menu that appears. The flickering line will move to the location you selected
Step 2. Paste the text with Ctrl+V
Move your cursor and click where you want to paste the text. Then, press Ctrl+V to place the text. The text will appear where you want it.
Step 3. Paste the text by right-clicking on your email editor app, then selecting Paste
When you've moved your cursor and clicked on the location where you want to paste the text, right-click again and select the Paste option. The text you cut or copied will appear where you want it.
Step 4. Paste the text on the smartphone
Press your finger on the screen to select the location where you want to paste the text. Not long after, a small menu will appear with the option "Paste". Remove your finger from the screen and tap "Paste" to enter the text you have cut or copied. Make sure the text editor application is open on your smartphone. You can edit emails in the email app or through your browser.
