You can set any image saved in a common image format as the desktop background image of a Mac computer. The setup process can be done quickly via Finder, Safari, or Photos. Use System Preferences if you want to further customize the appearance of the computer screen.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Quickly and Easily Change Desktop Background Gambar
Step 1. Right-click the image file
This is the fastest way to set a background image on a Mac computer. Just find the image file in the Finder and right-click on the file.
If you're using a single-button mouse, hold down the Control key and click the file as a "right-click" mechanism
Step 2. Select “Set Desktop Picture”
Click this option under the right-click drop-down menu. The desktop wallpaper will change automatically, although the change process may take longer for high-resolution images.
Step 3. Use an image from Safari as the background image
If you see the desired image while browsing the internet in Safari, right-click the image and select “Set Desktop Picture”.
Step 4. See more options
If you want to browse through all the images on your computer, including the operating system's default desktop wallpaper, see the System Preferences section. If you want to modify the appearance of the background image, skip to the display options section at the end of the article.
Method 2 of 4: Using System Preferences
Step 1. Open System Preferences
Click the Apple icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen and select “System Preferences”. You can also access this program through the “Applications” folder.
Step 2. Select “Desktop & Screen Saver”
This option is on the first line of options.
If you are taken to the “Screen Saver” option, click the “Desktop” tab first before continuing
Step 3. Select a folder from the left pane
The folders under the word " Apple " contain the images included in the operating system. Click the desired folder. After that, the pictures in that folder will be displayed in the right pane. You can also view categories other than “Apple”, including the “Photos” or “iPhoto” categories that contain photos from the respective application.
If you don't see the photos you want, keep reading this article to find out how to add them to your photo list
Step 4. Select an image
After viewing the image you like, click on the image in the right pane. The desktop background image will change immediately.
If you don't like the position or size of the displayed image, read the section on display options at the end of the article
Step 5. Add photos folder to the list
Click the small + icon at the bottom of the left pane. In the pop-up window, select the folder that contains the images. After that, the folder will be added to the left pane.
It may not be easy for you to find the iPhoto or Photos folder. Use the method below if you're having trouble
Step 6. Find the lost photos
If the photo you're looking for doesn't appear in the list, save the file in a different image format in the same folder. You may need to separate photos with other formats into separate folders.
To change the file format, open the image in Preview or another image-viewing program. Use the “File” → “Save As” menu and select the JPEG, PICT, TIFF, or-p.webp" />
Method 3 of 4: Selecting a Background Image from the Photo Library
Step 1. Open the photos app
This method describes the process of selecting images from the Photos and iPhoto applications. Other photo management apps may not offer this option.
This process is confirmed for iPhoto 9.5 and later versions. Older versions of iPhoto may have a different user interface
Step 2. Select a photo
The photo file must already be stored on your computer, and not in an iCloud library or camera storage space. You can drag it to the desktop to save it.
In some versions of the app, you can select multiple photos at once or an album. When you select multiple photos or an album, the desktop background image is rotated to display all the selected photos
Step 3. Set the selected image as desktop background using the “Share” button
Click the “Share” button in the top right corner of the screen (it looks like a box with a vertical arrow). Select "Set Desktop Picture" after that.
Continue to the display options section at the end of the article if you want to know how to adjust the image to fit on the screen
Step 4. Access the original image file
Some users prefer to move all their desktop images to a single folder and manage them from System Preferences. You can "drag and drop" photos onto the desktop to make a copy, but the image quality may be lower. Instead, follow these steps:
- In Photos, select the desired image and click the File menu → Export → Export Unmodified Original.
- In iPhoto, right-click (or Control-click) the image and select " Show File " to display the original image file in the Finder. Alternatively, use the menu “File” → “Reveal in Finder” → “Original”.
Method 4 of 4: Setting Display Options
Step 1. Access the desktop preferences window
Open the System Preferences program and select “Desktop & Screensaver”, then click the “Desktop” tab.
Step 2. Change loading image on screen/desktop
The drop-down menu above the drawing window determines the position of the image on the screen. Here's how each option works:
- “Fill screen”: The photo will be enlarged to cover the desktop. Some parts of the photo will be cropped if the size ratio is different from the screen dimensions ratio.
- “Fit to screen”: The photo will be enlarged to cover the height of the screen. Photos with slim dimensions will have black frames on both sides. Meanwhile, photos with wider dimensions will experience cropping on the sides.
- “Stretch to fill screen”: The shape of the photo will be distorted to fill the entire screen (without any part being cropped).
- “Center”: The photo will be placed in the center of the screen and surrounded by a solid color frame.
- “Tile”: The image will be shown repeatedly to fill the screen. In OS 10.7 or later, you can only select an image with a resolution smaller than the screen resolution for this option. Reduce the size of the large image if you want to display it with this option.
- If you select an option that doesn't fill the screen, a new button will appear to the right of the drop-down menu. Click the button to change the fill frame color.
Step 3. Turn the desktop into a slide
Under the pictures pane, check the " Change picture " box to cycle through all the pictures in the selected folder. Change the duration of the image change via the drop-down menu.
By default, this option will cycle through the images in the selected folder in the order they are in the folder. Check "Random order" to randomize the order of the images
Step 4. Change the appearance of the menu bar
Check the "Translucent menu bar" box if you want the background image "behind" the top menu bar to remain visible. Clear the box if you want the menu bar to remain a solid color (not transparent).
This option is not always available for all computers
Tips
- On some versions of Mac OS X, the pictures in the “Desktop Pictures” folder can only be displayed with the “Fit to Screen” option. If you want to change it to another display option, move the image to a different folder. The “Desktop Pictures” folder is stored in the “Macintosh HD” → “Library” folder.
- Apple recommends using photos with a minimum size of 1024 x 768 pixels.
