This wikiHow teaches you how to turn off VoiceOver, an accessibility feature on iPhone that reads out detailed content on the screen. You can turn it off by triple-pressing the “Home” button, accessing the device's settings menu (“Settings”), or instructing Siri to turn it off.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using the “Home” Button Shortcut
Step 1. Press the “Home” button three times quickly
As long as you've set up the “Home” button triple-click shortcut beforehand, the VoiceOver feature will be disabled.
- You can perform this procedure via the lock page or lock screen.
- When you hear the "VoiceOver off" message, the VoiceOver feature is already disabled.
- To re-enable the VoiceOver feature, triple-click the “Home” button again. You will hear the message “VoiceOver is on” after that.
- If you set multiple options on the triple-click shortcut (e.g. Voice Over, Assistive Touch, etc.), you need to select the features you want to turn off. Triple-clicking the “Home” button will not automatically disable the VoiceOver feature.
Step 2. Use another method
If you haven't assigned an accessibility shortcut with the “Home” button, the triple click mechanism won't have any impact. Therefore, you need to try a different method.
Method 2 of 3: Via the Settings Menu (“Settings”)
Step 1. Touch the device settings menu icon (“Settings”) once to select an option, and double-tap again to open it
The settings menu is marked by a gray gear icon which is usually displayed on the device's home screen.
Step 2. Touch General once to select it, and touch again twice to open options
It's at the top of the " Settings " page.
If you're using an iPhone with a 4.7-inch screen, scroll to the “ General first using three fingers.
Step 3. Touch Accessibility once to select it, and touch again twice to open options
It's at the bottom of the screen.
If you're using an iPhone with a 4.7-inch screen, you'll first need to swipe up with three fingers to see the features " Accessibility ”.
Step 4. Touch VoiceOver once to select it, and double-tap again to open the options
It's at the top of the " Accessibility " page.
Step 5. Touch the "VoiceOver" switch once to select it, and double-tap again to slide the switch
A "VoiceOver off" message will sound and normal/normal controls will be reactivated on the device.
Method 3 of 3: Using Siri
Step 1. Press and hold the “Home” button to activate Siri
It's a large circle button at the bottom center of the screen.
If you're using an iPhone 6s or later, you won't hear the chime when Siri is activated, unless you're using headphones or a Bluetooth device
Step 2. Say the command “Turn off VoiceOver”
You may need to wait a while for Siri to process the command. After Siri says “OK, I turned off VoiceOver”, the feature is already disabled.
