Sometimes, egg shells can be very difficult to peel. If normal methods of peeling hard-boiled eggs don't work, you may need to use the following strategy. This trick will make the egg shell immediately peel off.

Step 1. Put the hard-boiled eggs in the microwave
Step 2. Heat a hard-boiled egg in the microwave for 20 seconds
A little exposure to waves from the microwave will make the membrane under the eggshell easier to lift from the eggshell. (See warnings below on this discussion of heating times.) Wait at least a full minute to remove the eggs from the microwave.
Step 3. Remove the egg and peel the shell
By now, the eggshell should be easy to peel.
Step 4. Done
Tips
- Don't crack the eggs before putting them in the microwave.
- To prevent this problem from occurring in the first place, use older eggs and allow them to come to room temperature overnight. Then, boil the eggs in salted water. Boiled egg shells boiled in salted water will peel very easily. If you're using an electric stove, boil the eggs until the water boils, then turn off the stove without removing the eggs from the pot. After 14 minutes, place the eggs in the ice water.
- Method two: If your hard-boiled eggs are cold (chilled at 4.44°C) and the tap water you are using is hot (65.56°C), place the eggs in a bowl (or a container large enough to soak the eggs) and pour hot tap water to make the eggshell expand. Egg shells often peel off by themselves due to expansion by the hot temperature of the water. Regardless of whether the eggshell is peeling or not, cool the egg briefly in cold running water so that the egg is touchable and the shell is easy to peel.
- Method three: Crack the surface of the egg shell with your finger. Then, immediately soak the eggs. That way, you can peel the egg shells easily!
Warning
- Don't destroy the eggs by heating them too long in the microwave!
- Because eggs have many levels of density, the microwave method can be dangerous. The contents of the egg will heat up at different rates and speeds and lead to the possibility of a small explosion if the outer layer (egg white) breaks. This will make small pieces of eggshell fly at high speed and harm the eyes. This can happen up to 20 seconds after the eggs are removed from the microwave. In one video on Youtube, for example, at least one child was seriously injured because hot shards of egg shell hit his eye.
