This wikiHow teaches you how to access your Kindle book library through the Kindle Cloud Reader and the desktop version of the Kindle app. Kindle Cloud Reader allows you to read books from any device with an internet connection, and offers the option to download literature for offline enjoyment. If you don't mind installing the app, you can download the Kindle desktop app and use it to download and read any book in your library. You'll need an active Amazon account and at least one Kindle book linked to your account in order to use any version of the reader.

Method 1 of 2: Using Kindle Cloud Reader
Step 1. Visit https://read.amazon.com via a web browser
Kindle Cloud Reader is a web-based version of the Kindle desktop application. You can use the app through a common web browser if you want to enjoy Kindle reading on your computer.
Step 2. Sign in to your Amazon account
Once you arrive at the main page, you will be asked to sign in to your Amazon.com account using your email address and account password. Once the password is accepted, you will be taken to the Kindle library page.
If this is your first time logging into your account, you'll be prompted to set up your Kindle Cloud Reader so that you can use it to read books off-network. If you want to read the book without internet access, click “ Get Started Now ” to set it up.
Step 3. Click the book in the library
If you have never opened an existing book before, the first page of the book will be displayed. If you have read the selected book on another device synced with your Amazon account, you will be taken to the last page read.
- If you want to download the book to your computer, but are not prompted to set up the offline reading feature, click the “ Downloaded ” at the top center of the screen, then follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
- To download a book to your computer, right-click on the title and select “ Download & Pin Book " Books that have been downloaded are stored in the “ Downloaded ”.
Step 4. Use the arrow keys to open the book page
To advance one page, press the right arrow key on the keyboard or click the “ > ” on the right side of the page. To return to the previous page, press the left arrow key or click the “ < ” on the left side of the page.
- If you want to quickly move to another part of the book, drag the cursor over the page to display a progress bar at the bottom of the screen, then drag the slider to the desired page.
- You can also browse book content and segments by hovering over the top of the page and clicking the open book button.
- To search for something in a book, type a search keyword into the " Search " bar in the top right corner of the page. If you don't see it, drag your cursor over the page to reveal the bar.
Step 5. Click the Aa button to change the book view
You'll need to hover over the top of the page to show the toolbar first if you don't see it. After that, you can adjust the font size, position, color, margins, and other details.
Step 6. Add notes and bookmarks
Kindle Cloud Reader allows you to leave bookmarks, add notes, and mark posts.
- Click the bookmark icon on the toolbar to add a bookmark to the currently open page.
- To mark a word or phrase, select the word/phrase with the cursor, then click the “ Highlights ” is displayed.
- To add a note, mark the desired word and click the option “ Note ” is displayed. Type in a note and select " Save ”.
Step 7. Click the sync button after you finish reading

If you want to read Kindle books on a specific computer, even when the computer isn't connected to an active internet network, you can download the Kindle desktop application. Click the button " Download for PC & Mac ” below the cover image to download the installation file, click the downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program.
Step 2. Open the Kindle app
Once the app is installed, you can find it in the “Start” menu (Windows) or the “Applications” folder (MacOS).
Step 3. Sign in to your Amazon account
Before you can access the library, you will need to sign in to your Amazon account by typing in your email address and password. Once logged in, you can view the reading library.

If you have never opened the book before, the first page of the book will be displayed. If you've read it on another device that's synced with your Amazon account, you'll be taken to the last page read.

You can add notes, bookmarks, and bookmarks as you wish when reading e-books.
