Folding napkins can turn an ordinary dinner table into a special look. Goose napkins make for a simple and elegant presentation. And what's even better, you can make it in just a few minutes. The next time you welcome guests, use paper towels or cloth napkins for this beautiful creation.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Swans with Tissue Napkins
Step 1. Prepare a rectangular tissue napkin
Place it on a clean table in front of you. Position it in a rhombus with one corner facing you.
White napkins are a classic choice, but you can also use colored or patterned napkins. If you are using a colored or patterned napkin, place the patterned or colored section on top
Step 2. Fold the napkin vertically in half
Bring the right corner of the napkin over the left corner, and fold it.
Strengthen the crease by pressing your finger along the crease line. The crease here should appear firm
Step 3. Open the napkin
Unfold the napkin and turn it over. Return to a rhombus shape with a vertical center crease from the top corner to the bottom corner.
Step 4. Fold the right corner across the center crease line
To do this, imagine: divide the three 90-degree corners at the bottom of the napkin into 30 degrees each. Fold the right corner to the left with the 30 degree line. Press and flatten the folds.
You can also imagine that the resulting fold angle will point toward one o'clock
Step 5. Fold the left corner to the right
Align the left corners and edges with the right edges, then flatten the folds. Now you have folded the rhombus into three parts.
Step 6. Fold the top half back to the left
Take the top edge of the napkin (the part you folded in the previous step) and fold it back over to the left, creating a crease line parallel to the center line.
Step 7. Fold the bottom half of the fold back to the right
Repeat as before for the bottom crease: fold the bottom back over to the right and align the crease line with the center line.
Step 8. Fold the bottom edge up with the tip slightly higher than the top
Take the bottom corner (the corner pointing towards you) and fold it up. Position the bottom corner slightly higher than the top corner. Flatten the folds.
You need to know, the slightly higher part will be the goose's beak
Step 9. Make a beak
Fold the top corner over so the corner is pointing down.
Step 10. Turn the napkin over
You see the crease line that was created in Stage 2, which is vertical from bottom to top?
Step 11. Fold parallel to the center vertical line
Take a napkin and fold it in half, following the center line. Now your swan has started to take shape. Emphasize the crease at the bottom and front of the goose by pressing your index finger and thumb along the crease.
Step 12. Get ready to make the foundation folds
Place the goose on the table and position it so that the bottom corner is pointing towards you, and the other two corners pointing towards the left and right.
The back of the goose's neck should be vertical, parallel from top to bottom
Step 13. Fold the bottom edge towards the top slightly
Lift the bottom corner up and fold it slightly, creating a horizontal line from the right corner to the left.
Step 14. Repeat on the other part
Turn the goose over and repeat the previous step on the other side. Now you've made the folds for the foundation.
Step 15. Set up the goose
Unfold the crease you made at the bottom to form a foundation for the goose to stand on.
Step 16. Place the goose where you want it
Now you can make the swans, so you can fold in a few extra swans to create an interesting display.
Method 2 of 2: Making Two Heart-Shaped Swans with Cloth Napkins
Step 1. Lay the napkin flat on the table
If there is a certain pattern on one side, put that part on the top.
- You can use rectangular or rectangular napkins for this creation.
- Stiff napkins will be easier to create.
Step 2. Roll up the two sides until they meet in the middle
Make a relatively dense roll.
- If you are using a rectangular napkin, make a roll from the long side.
- To ensure that the two rolls are evenly distributed, first make a thin fold along the center of the napkin. The trick, fold the napkin in half, then open the fold again. (If you are using a rectangular napkin, fold the napkin along the long side.
Step 3. Fold the napkin to form a Z together
- Hold both ends of the napkin in front of you, then fold the right third up.
- Next, take the two folded folds and fold them again.
Step 4. Place the weight on the folded napkin for about a minute
You can use a thick book or a plate.
After a minute, lift the weights
Step 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 on the second napkin
If you want to make a uniform heart-shaped swan, use a napkin of the same design. If you prefer to mix and match, choose napkins with different patterns or colors.
Step 6. Place the two napkins side by side to form a heart
It may take a moment to position your goose to stand up straight. If you have trouble, try adjusting the curvature of the neck and the position of the two heads.
Be careful, because the very slippery table surface can make the two geese slide off of each other. Place it on a tablecloth, placemat, or other slightly rough surface
Tips
- You can also make swans out of towels!
- Make the folds as precise as possible. Align the corners with the sides, then press and flatten the folds from the center outwards.
- Always use clean hands and a table.
