Admit it, experimenting is one of the most fun ways to learn basic science and come up with something useful! Happy to do it? Come on, read this article to create various fun creations that you can do yourself, or accompanied by your parents.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Writing Invisible Messages
Step 1. Prepare the materials to make the invisible ink
In fact, there are many different types of materials that can be used to make invisible ink. Try selecting one of the following options:
- Orange juice
- Milk
- Lime juice
- Grape juice.
Step 2. Prepare your stationery
For example, you can use cotton buds, a toothpick, a painting brush, or a pointed pen.
Step 3. Start writing on a piece of paper using the "ink" and stationery of your choice
Then, wait for the ink to dry completely before giving the “letter” to someone else.
Make a special note. Writing letters in invisible ink is fun, but what if the recipient doesn't realize what you mean or thinks you're playing a prank? To avoid this possibility, don't forget to include a readable message containing a sentence like, “Hi (X)! This paper contains an invisible message. If you want to know what's in it, don't forget to read it under a bright light, okay?"
Part 2 of 3: Making Beautiful Crystals
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
To produce beautiful crystals, you need to prepare:
- 100 grams of powdered crystals. Increase the amount if you want to produce larger crystals
- 100 ml distilled water (or water that has been boiled until boiling)
- paper filter
- 2 clean containers.
Step 2. Remember, crystals and their constituent materials should not be touched or eaten
Some of the constituent elements of crystals, such as potassium nitrate, potassium dichromate, or component iodine are very toxic and harmful to your body.
Step 3. Mix powdered crystals with water
Step 4. Stir until the crystals dissolve
Step 5. Filter the crystal solution
Don't worry if there are still undissolved crystals. After all, you will filter the solution later, really.
Step 6. Pour the filtered solution into a clean container
Then, cover the container with a special lid, wax paper, or a piece of filter paper to prevent the solution from being polluted by free air and producing lots of “parasitic” crystals.
Do not expose the container to direct heat
Step 7. Leave the crystal solution for a moment
Remember, the size of the crystal will not increase overnight. That's why, you have to be patient to wait until the crystal size increases and the number increases. After these conditions are achieved, select the seed crystal you want, then place the remaining crystals in the same container as the remaining crystal powder.
- If you want to produce more small crystals in a short amount of time, try heating the water used to dissolve the powdered crystals. However, don't do this if you want large crystals to be produced.
- Or, you can also sprinkle a little extra powdered crystals for the same effect.
Step 8. Filter the crystal solution again
After that, add the smaller crystals to the solution (do this every time you see small crystals).
Step 9. Add new crystal solution, if necessary
If you feel that there is not enough solution in the container to completely soak the crystals, re-create a new crystal solution in a clean container, then pour it into the container containing the crystals.
- Since growing crystals is a fairly lengthy process, be patient. Most likely, new crystals will actually grow after being allowed to sit for a few days.
- If you see small crystals sticking out, put the parent crystal in the water and let it sit until no more small crystals form.
- Since crystals are fragile and break easily, make sure you are always careful when moving the container.
Part 3 of 3: Making Slime
Basically, the tips summarized in this article can produce two types of slime, namely those that are fibrous in texture or denser like gala-gala. That is, the type of slime produced can be adjusted according to your wishes and the way it is made. Interested in making a slime variant that is chewy and sticky like those commonly sold in various toy stores? Come on, follow the steps listed in this article to come up with one of the most popular visual aids for kids to learn about the polymerization process!
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
Basically, the use of clear PVA is one of the keys to producing the perfect slime. Although the measurements don't need to be completely accurate, there's nothing wrong with following the steps listed below for those of you who are making it for the first time. To produce more slime, simply increase the dose of each ingredient in the same ratio, yes!
- A bottle of elmer glue weighing about 250 grams
- Borax (powdered soap that you can easily find in major supermarkets)
- Big bowl
- Plastic cup with a capacity of 250 ml
- Spoon
- Measuring cup
- Food coloring
- Water
- Kitchen tissue (to clean the leftovers)
- Plastic clip bag (to store the finished slime)
- Water.
-
The dosage in the recipe is adjusted to the contents of a bottle of Elmer's glue.
Step 2. Pour the glue into the bowl
Step 3. Pour warm water into the empty glue bottle, then shake the bottle after first closing it tightly
Then, pour the water and remaining glue mixture into a bowl, and mix all the ingredients with a spoon.
Add a drop or two of food coloring, if desired
Step 4. Pour 120 ml of warm water into a plastic cup
After that, add 1 tsp. powdered borax into the water, and stir the solution until the borax dissolves. Remember, borax solution is the most important key to converting Elmer's glue molecules into slime!
Then, slowly pour the borax solution into the bowl of glue, stirring constantly
Step 5. Observe the reaction
You should notice that the previously separated molecular fibers will begin to connect. When this condition is reached, remove the spoon and use one hand to knead the slime mixture while the other hand pours the remaining borax solution. Don't stop kneading until you have slime with the texture you want, whether it's fibrous or denser. Be as creative as you like!
Step 6. Store slime properly
When finished playing, immediately put it in a plastic bag clip so that the texture is well preserved.
