The armpit is a sensitive area, so choose the hair removal method that feels most comfortable. The most popular option for removing armpit hair is shaving, as it can be done in just a minute or two. In addition, you can wax and epilate for longer results, or use depilatory creams for painless hair removal. If you are looking for a permanent solution, make an appointment for electrolysis treatment.
Step
Method 1 of 5: Shaving
Step 1. Wet the armpits with warm water
Shaving will be easier if your skin is soft, supple and warm. You can try shaving in the shower, or wet your armpits with warm water before shaving.
If the hair on your body grows easily into the skin, exfoliate with a body scrub first
Tip:
If you have sensitive skin, do this process at night to give your skin time to rest at night.
Step 2. Raise your hands up
Raise your hands high above your head to make sure the underarm skin is tight, so the skin doesn't get hurt by the razor.
Step 3. Apply shaving cream or body wash
Cover all the hair with this product so the razor can move smoothly over it. If you don't use shaving cream or liquid soap, you could injure your skin, so don't skip this important step.
Tip:
You can also use regular bar soap. Rub it into a lather before applying it to the underarms.
Step 4. Use a new, sharp razor
Using a dull or rusty razor can give you more than one problem as it prevents you from shaving properly, and you are more likely to get injured, and your armpit hairs may grow into the skin, or you may even develop an infection. Make sure this razor is in good condition.
Step 5. Shave the hair in the opposite direction of growth
Everyone's armpit hair grows in a slightly different way. Maybe your hair grows in one direction, or in different directions. Try shaving in the opposite direction of growth for a cleaner shave. Shave carefully, and wet the razor every time you finish moving it if needed.
Step 6. Rinse the armpits and repeat on the other side
Wipe off any excess shaving cream and check your armpits to make sure they're free of hair. If needed, shave the armpit again and then repeat on the other armpit.
Step 7. Wait an hour or two before applying deodorant
Shaving can cause minor cuts to the skin, so give it a chance to heal before applying any product. If you apply deodorant right away, it may sting or cause a red rash.
Method 2 of 5: Using Depilatory Cream
Step 1. Use a cream designed for sensitive areas
Depilatory cream. Depilatory cream has a level of strength of each. Some creams are designed for sensitive areas like the face and armpits, while others are designed to get rid of thick leg hair. Start by using a cream for sensitive areas. If it doesn't work, you can try a cream with extra strength the next time.
- If you use a cream that is too strong for your skin, a rash may appear on your skin.
- When in doubt, choose a cream designed for the face.
Step 2. Wash your armpits first
Rinse off deodorant and sweat so that you apply the cream to freshly cleansed skin. Dry the armpits with a towel.
Step 3. Raise your hands above your head
Make sure the skin is pulled tight. Get into a comfortable position so that you can hold your arms in position for a few minutes as you will have to keep lifting them up while using this cream.
Step 4. Apply the cream over the hairy area
Try not to apply it to the hairless skin around it. Use cream as needed to cover the fur.
Step 5. Wait for the recommended time
Keep your hands up and let the cream work. Most creams recommend that you wait three to ten minutes for the cream to take effect. Do not leave the cream on the skin for longer than the recommended time.
The cream may feel a little stinging, but it shouldn't be hot or painful. If you feel something painful, rinse immediately
Tip:
If this is your first time using a depilatory cream, rinse off the cream after a minute of applying it to make sure there is no allergic reaction. Try to find if there is redness, itching or swelling. Apply the cream again if your skin looks fine.
Step 6. Rinse your armpit and repeat on the other armpit
Follow the same process by applying the cream over the fur and allowing the cream to work for the recommended amount of time. Rinse when finished.
Step 7. Wait a few hours before applying deodorant
This gives the skin time to recover after this process and reduces the chances of the deodorant irritating the armpits.
Method 3 of 5: Waxing
Step 1. Make sure the length of the armpit hair is about 0.5 to 1.25 cm
This is the ideal length for this waxing process. If your armpit hair is shorter, the wax won't be able to grip it. If the coat is longer, it can become tangled and difficult to handle. If needed, wait a few more days for the hair to grow or trim the armpit hair to a suitable length.
Step 2. Prepare a waxing kit
You can use any type of body wax to get rid of armpit hair. Most of these devices are complete with wax which must be heated in the microwave or with a special wax heater. The device also provides an applicator and cloth strip that you use to pull off the hardened wax.
Heat the wax according to the instructions for use
Tip:
Test the wax on the back of your hand to make sure it's not too hot.
Step 3. Clean and exfoliate the armpits
Use a body scrub or loofah to remove dead skin cells and dirt, then rinse your underarms thoroughly. This will make the waxing process easier and prevent infection.
Step 4. Sprinkle underarms with baby powder
This powder dries underarms and prevents the wax from sticking to the skin when you pull it off. You can turn on a fan or open a window to keep your armpits dry in this process.
Step 5. Raise your arms above your head
Lift it as high as possible so that the armpit skin tightens. This will help the hair to be pulled out more easily and make the process less painful.
Step 6. Apply wax and strip
Insert the applicator into the wax and smooth it over the underarm hair in the direction of hair growth. Place the cloth strip over the wax and press gently.
Step 7. Pull the strip in the direction of hair growth
Do it quickly as if you were pulling a bandage. If it's too light, the wax won't pull the hair clean. In addition, if you do it slowly, this process will feel more painful.
- If you're having trouble pulling it off, it could be that your skin isn't taut enough. Try bending your elbow and using your fingers to hold the skin taut while you use your other hand to pull the strip.
- It could be that you sweat a little and your armpits get wet. Try turning on the fan to make the room feel cool.
Step 8. Repeat until the armpits are clean of hair
Depending on how much hair is in your armpits, this process should be repeated two to three times per armpit until the armpits are hair-free. Do this process on one armpit first, then move to the other armpit. You can pull off the remaining feathers with tweezers when you're done.
Step 9. Use almond oil or other lubricant to moisturize underarms
This can soothe the underarms after this process and help wash away any excess wax that is still stuck to the skin.
Step 10. Wait a few hours before applying deodorant
If you apply it right away, your skin may become irritated. Wait at least a few hours before applying any product.
Method 4 of 5: Using an Epilator
Step 1. Make sure the length of the armpit hair is only a few millimeters
This is the ideal length for this method. If it is longer, the hair can become tangled and difficult to remove by the epilator. You can shave your armpits one to two days before doing this method to ensure the ideal length of hair.
Step 2. Sprinkle underarms with baby powder
An epilator is a small machine with a rotating head to pull the hair out. Like waxing, the results can last for several weeks, but the process can be a little painful. Make sure your armpits are completely dry by dusting with baby powder.
Tip:
This will help ensure that your skin is not pulled and pinched by the tool.
Step 3. Raise your hands above your head
Lift up high so that the underarm skin is very tense. If the armpit skin is not so tense, the skin might be pinched by this tool.
Step 4. Turn on the epilator to a low level
Using a low level at first will help you get used to the sensation that comes when the feather is pulled.
Step 5. Move the tool gently over the armpit to remove one layer of hair
Keep it slightly off the surface of the skin at first. When the hair is pulled, you will feel a pinching sensation just like undergoing the waxing process. Over time you will get used to the sensation of the feather being pulled and you will be ready for the next step.
Step 6. Turn on the epilator to a higher level and position it closer to the skin
Now you can pluck out any remaining hairs that weren't pulled out on the first try. Keep the skin taut as you move the tool at higher levels.
Step 7. Repeat on one armpit again
Start with a lower level first, then set the tool to a higher level. Keep going until your hair is hair free.
Step 8. Apply aloe vera or witch hazel to soothe the skin
Your underarms will feel red and irritated, so soothe them with aloe as soon as you're done.
Step 9. Wait a few hours before applying deodorant
If you apply it directly, you might feel a stinging sensation or rash on the skin. So it's best to wait for a few hours.
Method 5 of 5: Undergoing Electrolysis Therapy
Step 1. Ask for a consultation at the salon
If you are interested in electrolysis treatment, it is very important to make sure you have it done at a reputable salon. Consult beforehand to get information about this process and prepare a plan.
- The electrolysis process destroys individual hair follicles with chemical energy or heat to make the armpit hair free permanently.
- Make sure the salon uses needle electrolysis, which is the only hair removal method that provides permanent results.
Step 2. Go through the first hair removal session
These sessions will last from fifteen minutes to an hour. Some people find this process painless, while others find it uncomfortable. Depending on the thickness of the coat, you may have to come back for more sessions.
Step 3. Treat armpits as recommended
The skin will be red and swollen after this terai session, so you should treat it gently. Apply aloe or other ointment recommended by the salon.
Tips
- If you use a hair removal cream, try testing it on a small area of your skin before applying it to your armpits to reduce the risk of developing a rash.
- Study the ingredients contained in the product before applying it and make sure you are not allergic to these ingredients.
- If you use a razor, be careful when applying deodorant! If there's a cut, even a small one, it's going to hurt when you put deodorant on it!
Warning
- You may experience a burning sensation after shaving. Your armpits feel burning and this sensation lasts quite a while.
- If you press the razor too hard or the razor doesn't suit your skin type, you could injure your armpits while doing so.
