Formed in 1952, Miss Universe is one of the most famous and largest beauty pageants in the world. The candidates for this contest consist of winners of national level beauty competitions from all over the world. In general, national level beauty contests involve beauty competitions held in big cities. Winners of the city-level contest will compete at the national level. Women can take the right steps so that she can qualify to be Miss Universe.
Step
Part 1 of 5: Eligible Miss Universe
Step 1. Be of sufficient age
Miss Universe contestants must be between 18 and 27 years of age as of January 1 of the year they are competing.
Step 2. Postpone the wedding
Contestants may not be married or pregnant, have ever been married, annul (the process by which a person's marriage is invalidated) or give birth or have children.
Step 3. Know the tests performed on the competition
Contestants were tested on the following three categories: evening gown, swimsuit, and personality interview. This contest does not test skills.
Step 4. Enter a beauty contest
To take part in the Miss Universe beauty pageant, contestants must register through the Miss Universe representative located in each country. In Indonesia, contestants must take part in the Puteri Indonesia beauty pageant first. You can visit the Puteri Indonesia website for more information.
Part 2 of 5: Preparing to Compete in Miss Universe
Step 1. Keep your body in shape
Exercise and eat healthy food. Remember that a Miss Universe contestant's appearance is put to the test when she is wearing a swimsuit.
For the Puteri Indonesia competition, contestants must be at least 168 cm tall
Step 2. Pamper the skin
Don't be afraid to spend money on products that highlight the beauty of your skin, including moisturizers and facial cleansers that remove acne. If you want to go outside, use sunscreen so that the body is protected from the sun's damaging rays.
Step 3. Remove unwanted body hair
Almost all Miss Universe contestants use the waxing method (removing body hair using wax) because the results last for several days. If you want to use the waxing method, you should do it a few days before the contest. However, you should also refrain from waxing ahead of competition day, as your skin may still look reddish and irritated from the removal method. Do waxing in the bikini line area (underwear area), armpits, legs, and mustache (if you have one).
If you've never waxed before, make an appointment with a waxing provider at least a week before the contest to see how your skin reacts. You can always make an appointment for a follow-up waxing or shaving of the base of the body
Step 4. Practice with a beauty pageant coach
A coach can teach you how to walk, behave and look during the contest. Ask friends or other contestants for coach recommendations. You can also look for trainers on beauty pageant websites.
Many contestants take modeling courses to practice walking and posing
Step 5. Prepare for the interview
Study and make an opinion about events in the world that are happening or have recently occurred. Determine the topic of discussion in the form of the things you care about the most that will be addressed if you win a beauty contest.
- Several types of questions usually appear repeatedly in beauty pageant interviews. Study the question and prepare the answer. You can study the questions and answers on the Pageant Answers website.
- Be prepared to be asked questions like, "Who is the most influential person in your life?" "What are the biggest environmental issues facing the world?" and "What do you think beauty consists of?"
Part 3 of 5: Buying Beauty Pageant Supplies
Step 1. Save money for admission, travel, and clothing
Contest entry fees can cost up to IDR 10,000,000, 00 and costs for clothes can cost up to IDR 50,000,000, 00. Hair and make-up costs IDR 4,000,000 per hour. You will also have to pay for the travel costs yourself.
Step 2. Buy high-quality makeup
Don't use makeup products that come from stores that specialize in selling items at discounted prices. Instead, buy quality makeup at department stores and at stores that specialize in makeup products.
Step 3. Buy clothes
You will need an evening gown, swimsuit, and attire for the preliminaries interview. You will also need different shoes for each outfit.
- For a swimsuit, choose clothes that are solid or black. Two-piece (swimsuit consisting of two pieces, for example: bikini) and one-piece (swimwear consisting of one piece or overall swimsuit) can be worn. Wear high heels that are 4 inches or 10 centimeters high that go well with your bathing suit.
- For evening dresses, use clothes that reflect your personality and match your body. Even if you're interested in buying clothes online, it's a good idea to buy dresses that have already been tried on.
- For the interview stage, use a neutral colored skirt suit or a sheath dress that matches your skin tone. Wear high heels that match the outfit.
Part 4 of 5: Behaving in a Beauty Pageant
Step 1. Be nice
Be your best self by acting like a complete woman during a beauty pageant. Always stand tall and smile. Do not swear, use drugs, smoke, etc. Present yourself as a person who is stylish and has manners. You never know when the jury is near you.
Step 2. Complete the interview well
Stay calm and relaxed, but also enthusiastic and happy. Pretend you're talking to family or friends, but at the same time, behave appropriately and politely. Don't look nervous. Instead, try to show strong self-confidence.
- During the interview, shake the judge's hand if he or she is the first to reach out, and say good morning, good evening, good afternoon, or whatever fits the interview time.
- When conducting the interview standing up, try to stand up straight with confidence, pull your shoulders back and conduct the interview with determination. If doing the interview while sitting, straighten your back, cross your legs, and fold your arms in your lap.
Step 3. Remain calm and be polite to the crew and other contestants
The way you act backstage will reflect how you perform on stage.
Don't let your emotions be provoked if provoked. This often happens because of the jealousy and fear experienced by all contestants
Part 5 of 5: Competing in Beauty Pageants
Step 1. Show your fitness with confidence when wearing a swimsuit
Swimsuit show competitions can be stressful for some women as they expose their partially exposed bodies to millions of viewers.
- Avoid showing unwanted areas of the body by using butt glue (a product that has the function of attaching the body to clothes). In addition, you can also sew additional fabric that is the color of your skin to the part of the swimsuit that covers the buttocks.
- Wearing high heels that are similar in color to your skin tone not only makes your legs look longer, but it doesn't detract from your fitness value and smile.
- For a swimsuit show competition, practice posing in front of a mirror, so you'll know what gestures you can make when you're exposed to light.
- By practicing for a swimsuit show competition, you will feel more confident walking on stage
Step 2. Show personality
During the interview, don't give the usual answers that people the jury already know. Instead, give answers that reflect your personality calmly and confidently. Unique contestants will be considered important to the judges and will be remembered forever.
Step 3. Present yourself as an elegant person
In the evening gown show competition, the judges will look for contestants who are charming and elegant. The way the contestant walks is just as important as the choice of dress. The judges judge each contestant by how graceful and serene the way he presents himself.
- Walk smoothly on stage without making wobbly movements. Practice using the "balance the book on head" method to perfect your posture.
- Shorter strides can also help get a proper gait.
Step 4. Smile, no matter the outcome
If you don't win, don't be angry. Face defeat gracefully. Try to re-enter the competition, but remember that you can only enter the contest twice, so give your best the next time around.
Tips
- If you don't understand a question asked by the jury or someone else, don't lie. Ask the question again politely and answer as best you can.
- Think of beauty pageants as something to be held accountable for because you are not only representing yourself, but also the country and the jury's decisions about you.
