This wikiHow teaches you how to turn on your TV the easy way!
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using the TV Controller
Step 1. Hold the controller then press the power button to turn on the TV with the controller (remote)
- Read How to Use the TV Controller for a guide to using the TV controller.
- If you have additional speakers, game consoles, DVD players, etc., you may need to turn them on separately.
Method 2 of 3: Using the Controller and Receiver Box
Step 1. Make sure the cable box is on
- Pay attention to the receiving box. Does the screen show numbers or is it just blank? If the display shows a number, the receiving box may already be lit.
-
Set up the receiving box controller. Sometimes this controller is different from the TV controller.
On most multi-purpose controllers, you have to press the “All On” button. If the controller can control both the TV and the receiver box, it can power both devices at the same time. If the controller can only control the receiver box, please read the next step
Step 2. Press the power button on the TV Controller
- If the TV does not turn on, the controller may have a problem. Check the TV controller battery. When using the multi-purpose controller, press the “TV” button and then try pressing the power button.
-
If the TV turns on successfully but does not display any channels (the TV only shows a blue screen, or "no signal"), follow the guidelines below:
- Make sure the receiver box is on.
- Make sure the TV is on the right broadcast to receive a signal from the receiver box. Generally, this broadcast is “zero”
Method 3 of 3: No Controller
Step 1. Approach the TV and press the power button to turn on the TV without using the controller
If you're having trouble finding the TV's power button, follow the guidelines below:
- Read your TV manual if it still has one.
- Check if the TV has a power button, Generally, this button is located in the center of the bottom panel of the TV.
- Check the left, right and top of the TV. Some TVs have a power button in that area. The button may have a different size, color, label, or power symbol from the other buttons.
Step 2. Try to find or replace the TV controller
First, try to find the missing TV controller. If you can't find the power button and TV controller, buy a controller that fits your TV. If the TV controller is faulty, follow the guidelines in the Repairing the Remote Control article to fix it.
Tips
- Don't hit the controller or TV if it doesn't want to turn on.
- Store TV manuals or other electronics in a safe place. This is done so that you can find them easily if you need to.
