Step
Method 1 of 3: Boiling
Step 1. Consider the largest pot you have when buying crab legs
These crab legs can only bend at the joints, and you need to put them in the pot whole.
Step 2. Defrost the crab legs completely
Place the frozen leg in the refrigerator overnight, and don't forget to cover it.
- Most crab legs are sold undercooked so you don't have to cook them for a long time. However, crab legs are generally frozen to preserve their freshness.
- If the crab legs don't fully thaw after you place them in the refrigerator overnight, place them in a large bowl. Place the bowl in the sink and run cold water until the crab legs are completely melted.
Step 3. Put cold water in your largest pot
Fill the pot with water to 2/3 full.
Step 4. Add in about 1 tsp. (5 grams) salt
Step 5. Turn on the stove over high heat and let the water boil
Step 6. Put the crabs in the pot
Put the crab legs into the boiling water. Be careful not to get splashed with water when you insert the crab legs.
If the water doesn't boil, bring it back to a boil when all the legs have been put in the pot
Step 7. Boil the crabs for about 4-5 minutes
Step 8. Use metal tongs to remove the crab legs
Put it in a bowl to drain it.
Step 9. Use kitchen shears to split the crab legs lengthwise
Serve one crab leg for each guest.
You may need to provide each person with a fork as a tool to pry the meat out of the shell
Step 10. Melt 1 tbsp butter
(15ml) for each guest. Also serve a few slices of lemon to use as a flavor enhancer and dip according to taste.
You can also use clarified butter instead of melted butter. As it melts, let the butter sit for about 4 minutes. Strain the butter with a cheesecloth to separate the solids. Serve this filtered butter to guests
Method 2 of 3: Steaming
Step 1. Use a large steamer with a sieve and lid
If the sieve is small, you may find it difficult to cook all the crab legs at once.
Step 2. Defrost the crab and wash it thoroughly
Step 3. Put cold water in the pot until it is half full
Add a little salt, then put the lid on the pot.
Step 4. Turn on the stove over high heat to bring the water to a boil
Step 5. Open the lid of the pot when the water boils
Bend the joints of the crab legs, then put them in a sieve.
Step 6. Cover the pot again and steam the crab legs for six minutes
Step 7. Remove the crab legs from the pan and serve immediately
Serve crab legs with clarified butter and lemon wedges.
Method 3 of 3: Baking
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C
Place the roasting rack in the center of the oven.
Step 2. Wash the thawed crab legs
Step 3. Use kitchen shears to cut the crab legs
Cut the crab legs lengthwise to make it easier for guests to eat them with a fork.
Step 4. Place the snow crab legs in a large baking pan
Step 5. Spread olive oil or melted butter on the crab
Step 6. Sprinkle lemon juice
You can season the crab legs with pepper, salt, and any other spices you want.
Step 7. Put the crab legs in the oven and cook for about 8-9 minutes
Step 8. Remove the crab legs from the oven and serve immediately
You can serve it with lemon and clarified butter, although this isn't necessary since the snow crab legs are already seasoned.
