Step
Method 1 of 5: Make Simple Vanilla Snow Ice Cream
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
Gather the following ingredients and refrigerate them in the refrigerator or in a protected area outdoors if you live in a colder (sub-zero) climate to prevent the snow you will be using from melting:
- 250 ml liquid milk
- 80 grams of sugar
- 5 ml vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
Step 2. Beat the liquid milk with powdered sugar, vanilla extract and salt
Take a large bowl, then put the ingredients in a bowl and beat until smooth. Make sure the bowl you use is large enough and made of plastic to reduce heat transfer.
Step 3. Add snow to the mixture
Prepare about 2000 grams of clean and fresh snow, then immediately add it to the vanilla mixture. It is important that you do this immediately so that the snow does not melt. Mix the ingredients until you get the ice cream density you want and add toppings such as chocolate chips (meises) or cherries, to taste.
- Usually, the texture of the ice cream will be soft, but not runny.
- Make sure you select and inspect the snow to be used carefully so that there is no dirt adhering to the snow.
Method 2 of 5: Making Peanut Butter and Chocolate Snow Ice Cream
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
Prepare a large bowl, then mix the following four ingredients in the bowl. You can substitute Hershey's chocolate syrup for another brand of chocolate syrup that you prefer.
- 125 ml chocolate syrup
- 60 grams peanut butter
- 60 ml of liquid milk or cream
- 5 ml vanilla extract
Step 2. Add the snow to the chocolate and nut butter mixture
Prepare about 2000 grams of fresh, clean snow and immediately add the snow to the nut butter mixture. It is important that you do this immediately so that the snow does not melt. Stir all the ingredients until you get the ice cream density you want.
Step 3. Add toppings on the ice cream
You can add chopped peanut butter sticks or meises, or other ingredients according to taste.
Step 4. Cover the bowl and freeze for an hour
Your ice cream will have a fairly creamy texture. Once all the ingredients are well mixed, cover the bowl of ice cream and store it in the refrigerator or outdoors (if the outdoor temperature is below 0 or water freezes) to allow the ice cream to freeze, so that the ice cream becomes firmer.
Method 3 of 5: Making Chocolate and Peppermint Snow Ice Cream
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
Combine the three ingredients below in a large bowl. As an alternative to peppermint extract, you can use mint extract or raspberry extract.
- 420 ml sweetened condensed milk
- 60 grams cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 2.5 ml peppermint extract
Step 2. Mix the snow into the mixture
Prepare about 2000 grams of fresh, clean snow and immediately add it to the chocolate mixture. So that the snow does not melt, you need to do it quickly. Stir all the ingredients until you get the ice cream density you want.
Step 3. Add toppings to your ice cream
You can add nuts or cherries to taste.
Step 4. Put the lid on the bowl and freeze the ice cream
Once all the ingredients are evenly mixed, refrigerate the ice cream for an hour or so. Make sure you put a lid on the bowl of ice cream before storing it in the refrigerator or outdoors, if the outdoor temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius.
Method 4 of 5: Making Amaretto Caramel Snow Ice Cream
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
Combine the four ingredients below in a large, microwave-safe bowl, then heat them in the microwave on medium heat for 30 seconds. Stir the mixture and reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds. Repeat this process until the mixture is smooth, then let the mixture cool.
- 250 grams of white chocolate chips
- 125 ml thick caramel
- 80 ml liquid milk
- 2.5 grams of salt
Step 2. Make a caramel alternative if needed
If you don't have caramel, combine 50g of brown sugar with 120 ml of cream, 1 tablespoon of butter and a pinch of salt in a skillet and heat over medium heat. Stir carefully for 5 to 7 minutes until you get the caramel consistency you want. Add 4 ml of vanilla extract and reheat the mixture for another minute to thicken the mixture. After that, turn off the heat and transfer the caramel to a container with a lid. Let the caramel cool.
Step 3. Mix the snow with the Amaretto
Prepare about 2000 grams of fresh, clean snow and immediately add it to the caramel mixture, then add 60 ml of Amaretto. You can replace Amaretto with another liquor or not use it at all. Again, it's important that you do it quickly so the snow doesn't melt. Stir the ingredients until you get the ice cream density you want.
Step 4. Add toppings on the ice cream
You can add chocolate chips or toasted almonds to your liking.
Step 5. Freeze until the ice cream has the desired density
After all the ingredients are well mixed, your ice cream will have a fairly soft texture. Put the ice cream in a container with a lid and store your ice cream in the refrigerator or outdoors until the ice cream hardens and has the desired density.
Method 5 of 5: Make Snow Ice Cream with Cake Batter
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
Combine the five ingredients below in a large bowl. You can substitute instant cookie dough powder or vodka for a different flavor if you prefer. In addition, you can also skip the vodka altogether and replace it with milk.
- 125 ml sweetened condensed milk
- 60 grams of ready-to-use yellow cake dough powder
- 45 ml cake flavored vodka
- 30 ml liquid milk
- 5 ml vanilla extract
Step 2. Add snow to the mixture
Prepare about 2000 grams of fresh, clean snow and immediately add it to the cake mix mixture. So that the snow does not melt, you need to immediately add it and mix it into the dough. Stir the ingredients until you get the ice cream density you want.
Step 3. Add toppings on the ice cream
You can add nuts or cherries to the ice cream according to your taste.
Step 4. Put the ice cream in a container with a lid and freeze
After all the ingredients are well mixed, cover the bowl containing the ice cream and store the container in the refrigerator or outdoors until the texture is smooth. The longer you freeze it, the denser your ice cream will be.
Tips
- If you live in an area that doesn't snow (e.g. in a subtropical climate) or are unsure about the cleanliness or freshness of the snow around your home, replace the snow with shaved ice. Don't use a blender to make shaved ice; instead, use an ice shaver if available.
- There are several alternatives you can try. Instead of milk, you can use cracked eggs or eggnog. Also, instead of vanilla extract, you can use cinnamon extract, butterscotch extract, or almond flavoring.
- To add nutrients and improve taste and appearance, you can add beaten raw eggs to your ice cream.
- If you want to make snow ice cream indoors, use a large freezer bag to store leftover snow ice cream. Freezer bags can be an effective storage medium because of their thicker walls, so they are less likely to have small holes that cause leaks in the bag.
Warning
- Use only clean, fresh snow. If the snow in your yard has been accumulating for a long time or is a color other than white, don't use it. Eating them can actually make you sick.
- If you live in the area where there is a possibility of salmonella bacteria growing, do not eat raw eggs, and do not give them to your children. Instead, you can use a mixture of boiled eggs and sweetened condensed milk to add to your snow ice cream.
-
Snow mixed with salt has its own dangers.
- When it's still wet, snow mixed with salt can be very cold, up to -10°C. Therefore, do not allow your children to directly touch the snow that has been added to the salt. Put on thick gloves and stir the mixture using a kitchen utensil (eg a large spoon or spatula), or mix it in a thick whisk bag.
- Snow mixed with salt can also conduct electricity. Therefore, always wash your hands after handling them.
- Snow mixed with salt can also cause electrolytic corrosion which can lead to rust on metal materials, even stainless steel tools within a few hours-especially aluminum tools. Therefore, after use immediately wash and rinse kitchen utensils with plenty of water so that the salty snow that sticks can be removed and does not stick to the sink or trash can.
