You can make a strong flat weave from yarn for jewelry or other creations. Learning to weave with thread can also help you learn how to make various kinds of weave that can be used as hair ornaments, belts, bracelets, or ribbons. Learn how to weave using three, four, and eight strands of yarn according to these instructions.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Making Weaving from Three Threads
Step 1. Prepare the yarn
If you want to weave one color, cut three threads of the same color. To make multicolored weave, cut three strands of yarn of different colors.
Make sure you cut the threads to the same length. As a first step, you can start learning to weave with 30 cm of thread
Step 2. Tie the three ends of the thread together
Arrange so that all three ends of the thread are the same height.
Step 3. Make a knot 5 cm from the end of the thread
Cut 7.5 cm of duct tape and attach the ends of this knotted thread to the table.
Spread the duct tape over the table so that the thread doesn't move when pulled
Step 4. Separate these three threads on the table
Hold the thread on the right with your right thumb and forefinger. After that, hold the thread on the left with your left thumb and forefinger.
Step 5. Take the third thread in the middle with your right middle finger
During weaving, you must transfer the thread in this middle from your right middle finger to your left middle finger or vice versa.
Step 6. Move the right thread to the left across the middle thread
Your wrist will rotate counterclockwise.
Step 7. Grasp the new middle thread with your left middle finger
Move the left thread across over the center thread. Your wrist will rotate clockwise.
Step 8. Repeat this movement
Swap the right thread for the middle thread and the left thread with the middle thread until the weave reaches the end of the thread.
Step 9. Twist the thread as tightly as possible to make your weave tight
You will learn how to adjust the tightness of the webbing with a lot of practice.
Step 10. Make a knot at the bottom end of your weave
Method 2 of 3: Making a Weave (Flat) of Four Threads
Step 1. Arrange four threads of the same length in a row
Make a knot 5 cm from the end of the thread and stick it on the table.
Step 2. Separate these four threads
Step 3. Grasp the two outermost threads with your thumb and forefinger
Hold the rightmost thread with your right hand and the leftmost thread with your left hand.
Step 4. Hold the two threads in the middle of each with your middle finger
Step 5. Move the leftmost thread past the inner left thread
These two threads will swap places.
Step 6. Take the rightmost thread and move it between the two threads on the left
Step 7. Repeat this movement again by moving the leftmost thread across on top of the next thread
After that, move the rightmost thread between the two threads on the left.
Step 8. Continue until your weave reaches the end of the yarn
You will get a flat woven result.
Step 9. Make a knot at the bottom end of your weave
Method 3 of 3: Making Weaving from Eight Threads
Step 1. Prepare eight threads of the same length
Adjust so that the ends of these threads are the same height.
Step 2. Glue the threads onto the table with duct tape while separating the threads one by one
The results of this woven shape is also flat.
Step 3. Separate these threads into four threads on the left and four more on the right
Four yarns will be called the right group and four more are called the left group. Keep the same distance between the two groups as you weave.
Step 4. Start weaving the threads one by one so that you understand the pattern
After that, you can try holding these two groups of yarn, one with your left and one with your right.
Step 5. Move the leftmost thread
Cross over the next thread, then under the next thread, and over the last thread in the left group. Place this thread parallel to the innermost thread in the right group.
At this time, there should be five threads in the right group and three threads in the left group
Step 6. Take the rightmost thread
Cross under, over, under, then over the next thread. This thread should have an inner left group.
Step 7. Repeat this movement, take the leftmost thread, cross it above, below, then over the next thread and join the right group
After that, take the rightmost thread, cross it below, above, below, then above and join the left group.
Step 8. Make a knot at the bottom end of your weave
Finished!
Tips
- Make a woven bracelet or necklace by inserting glass, metal, or plastic beads as you weave. These beads will be tied inside your weave.
- There are many more types of weave that you can try once you understand how to make weave from yarn. Look for information about other forms of weaving to increase your knowledge.
