You may crave homemade cookies on a hot day, but you're too lazy to turn on the oven. Take advantage of the hot air and bake cookies on your car dashboard. This article will teach you how to bake cookies on the dashboard of your car or truck.
Ingredients
Ready-to-use cookie dough, either available in supermarkets or homemade (for the version no eggs used in this article, see the eggless cookie recipe and add chocolate chips, if desired)
Step
Part 1 of 3: Prepare the car
Step 1. Make sure the air outside reaches at least 35ºC/95ºF before you start this project
For best results, park your car in an area exposed to direct sunlight.
Step 2. Remove any items you may need from your car
Car doors and windows must always be closed during the roasting process. Make sure your car is parked in a clean place away from the fumes of passing vehicles.
Remove the car freshener from the car. Car deodorizer can spoil the smell of cookies, and you won't need it after you're done baking because your car will smell like freshly baked cookies
Part 2 of 3: Prepare the Cookie Dough
Step 1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
You can coat it with baking spray but remember that it can cause the dough to expand
Step 2. Prepare cookie dough if necessary
Do one of the following:
- Cut the dough roll into several equal sized balls. Place the circles on the baking sheet at a distance of 4 cm from each other.
- If you haven't purchased a ready-made dough yet, make the dough using your own cookie recipe (preferably without eggs, to avoid undercooked eggs). Take a spoon-wide lump of dough and arrange it on a baking sheet with sufficient space between one cookie and another.
Step 3. Place cookie dough pieces on the baking sheet with a distance of about 4 cm between each cookie
- Use a spoon or fork to flatten the dough, if necessary. You don't have to do this when the dough is fairly even.
- Wrap the dough in plastic if not baking immediately and store in the refrigerator until needed. Don't keep the dough too long. Use a few hours after the dough is made.
Part 3 of 3: Bake Cookies on the Dashboard
Step 1. Put the dough in the car
Place it gently on the dashboard.
Place the thermometer next to the pan on the dashboard. You have to make sure the temperature of your car reaches at least 71ºC/160℉ to kill germs in the raw materials
Step 2. Close the car door and let the sun start to bake
The baking process will start immediately; however, unlike oven baking, you are encouraged to keep an eye on it as this method is quite experimental.
Step 3. Monitor the roasting process by regularly viewing it from the windshield
The time it takes will vary depending on the temperature in your car. Your cookies will ripen, but the color of the cookies won't change much because your car isn't hot enough to melt the sugar in the cookies.
Step 4. Check your cookies
Open the car door to check your cookies when they look almost ripe. Hold the edges and center of the cookie. The edges of the cookies should be firm, and the center of the cookies should be cooked and not mushy.
- Try taking a cookie out of parchment paper. When the cookies are ripe, they will be easy to pick up. If the cookies are not cooked, they will stick to the parchment paper.
- Close the car door if the cookies are not ripe. Keep checking the state of the cookies every 15 to 30 minutes until the cookies are done.
Step 5. Remove the pan from the car
Take the cookies out with a spatula and cool them on a cooling rack, although they won't be as hot as they were fresh out of the oven.
Step 6.
