Head lice are a common problem experienced by school-age children, who transmit it to each other in the classroom. Ticks are annoying and annoying animals, but with persistent effort, you should get rid of them in a week or two. Body lice, and dog fleas can also be treated if you know what tools to use. Method 1 of 2: Get Rid of Head Lice
Step 1. Choose a treatment for head lice
Using a lice killer is the quickest way to fight head lice. Some flea-killing agents are designed to kill both lice and their eggs, while others are only capable of killing adult lice. For types that are only capable of killing adult fleas, this product must be administered twice. To use the flea killer, be sure to read the instructions for use on the package and follow these steps:
- Ask the person who will be receiving treatment to put on old clothes and sit in the bathroom. This will make the cleaning process easier.
- Pour the product into your hair and scalp according to the directions in the bottle.
- Leave the product for the recommended time on the package. Usually about an hour or less. Do not leave the product on your head for longer than the recommended time.
- Rinse the product with water, not shampoo. Shampoo should not be used for 2 days.
Step 2. Comb the hair with a fine-toothed comb to remove nits
This step is necessary to speed up the treatment process if you use a lice-killing product, but you can also get rid of lice with a nits comb alone. The nits comb is a useful tool specially made for removing dead nits and lice along with combing the hair.
- Divide the hair into sections
- Starting at the scalp, pull the comb from the roots to the ends of the hair.
- Dip the comb in a bowl of warm water and soap. This water will kill the lice and their eggs; they will die quickly in the absence of a food source.
- Continue to comb through each section of hair until all of them are combed.
- Clean the comb by placing it in a bowl of hot water after each use. Lice and eggs will die when placed in a temperature of 54 degrees Celsius for 5 minutes or more.
Step 3. Wash clothes and bed linen
After this first treatment, wash clothes, bed linen, pillowcases, dolls and fabrics that have been touched in hot water, and then dry in a hot dryer. While lice won't live very long after jumping off someone's head, washing them all is important so you can be sure they won't pass to someone else.
For materials that cannot be soaked in hot water, such as hairbrushes and hair accessories, place them in a plastic bag for at least two weeks. Fleas will die from suffocation
Step 4. Watch for signs of tick life
After the first treatment, you will need to monitor your hair every 8 hours to see if there are any live lice. Ticks hatch in several cycles, and it is almost impossible to get rid of them all with one treatment. Comb your hair thoroughly every 8 hours for the first three days. After that, continue to monitor the scalp every 16 hours and comb as needed for the next 2 weeks.
Most flea treatments require a second application after about 10 days to kill any lice that have hatched after the first treatment
Step 5. Use an oil treatment to speed up this process
Whether you use a flea killer or not, there are some natural ingredients that can resist and kill fleas. If you are sensitive to chemicals, these natural ingredients can be an option and you can try to fight lice naturally.
- Melt 1/2 cup of coconut oil or warm up 1/2 cup of neem oil and massage it into your hair and scalp. Both of these ingredients have antibiotic properties.
- Use a nits comb to clean hair that has been oiled. The nits will come out more easily.
Step 6. Use an essential oil spray
Some essential oils can repel lice and make the nits easier to remove from the hair. Fill a spray bottle with 5 drops of essential oil for every 30 ml of water. Try one or more of the following essential oils:
- Tea tree oil
- Lavender
- Oregano
- Peppermint
- Thyme
- Eucalyptus
Step 7. Prepare for a long battle
Adult and newly hatched lice are fairly easy to get rid of, but their eggs (called nits) are much more difficult to remove, and this is the source of most of the real problems. People often assume that they have overcome the lice, but then face it again because of the few eggs that remain. You have to be diligent in trying to get rid of the fleas to really win this battle.
Step 8. Don't pass the tick to other people
Fleas can spread quickly in one home. While dealing with a flea problem in one person, wash all their sheets, hoods, and hats in hot water and dry dry anything that cannot be washed normally. Also, clean combs and brushes with hot water and soap.
- Keep the carpet and sofa upholstery clean by vacuuming regularly.
- Do not give flea medication to pets as it may be dangerous or even lethal to them.
Method 2 of 2: Getting Rid of Other Types of Lice
Step 1. Overcoming body lice
Body lice live in the folds of clothes and get their food from human blood. They are larger than head lice and are easy to find on the body. These lice are commonly found in areas where people live very close together and do not have access to toilet facilities. Body lice are easy to get rid of once these facilities are available. To get rid of body lice, do the following:
- Dispose of clothing infested with fleas. Lice can survive up to a month on clothing. Don't use these clothes again, throw them away.
- Shower regularly and use soap.
- Wash clothes, bed linen and other fabrics regularly.
- Your doctor may prescribe medication that contains permethrin, malathione, or benzyl alcohol to reduce itching.
Step 2. Overcoming pubic hair lice
Pubic lice, also known as crabs, can be transmitted through sexual contact. Pubic hair lice can also live on body parts that have a lot of hair, such as eyebrows, ears and armpits. Lice and eggs can be seen easily. There are several ways you can do to deal with this type of lice:
- Use a lotion containing 1% permethrin or a mousse containing pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide. These chemicals can kill fleas effectively. Follow the instructions for use listed on the packaging.
- Get rid of lice with a flea comb
- Wash your clothes and underwear in very hot water.
- Soak combs and other objects in hot water for 5 minutes.
- Shave pubic hair. Getting rid of pubic head lice is an effective method, especially when done in conjunction with chemical treatments.
- Watch for signs of new growth. If there is, it is necessary to carry out a second treatment.
- Only use lindane shampoo as a last resort. This shampoo is effective, but research has found its bad effect on the brain.
Step 3. Get rid of dog fleas
Dog fleas can't be transmitted to humans (and vice versa from human to dog fleas), but they can make your dog feel very uncomfortable. There are two types of dog ticks: trichodectes canis, known as the chewing flea, and linognathus setosus, known as the sucking flea.
- Take your dog to the vet. Make sure that your dog does have fleas.
- Use powder, spray or other treatment recommended by your veterinarian.
- Wash your dog's bedding and everything it has touched in very hot water.
- Soak grooming equipment in very hot water for 5 minutes.
Tips
- Try not to borrow a comb or hairbrush from someone else. You must have it yourself.
- Use a hair straightener for nits. The heat generated by this tool will kill it.
- Another natural product that is known to reduce infestations is fresh rosemary. Many shampoos and sprays can repel lice because of the rosemary scent. A little fresh rosemary (2 - 3 stalks) should be placed in the pillowcases of the whole family. You can place rosemary under your pillow so it doesn't interfere with your sleep and you can't even feel it. If left for one week, the lice will leave the hair and no eggs will remain on the head.
- Lice have a 7 - 10 day reproductive cycle, so combing your hair every six days will give good results, until you are sure the lice are completely gone.
- Avoid direct contact with other people's heads.
- This process will not be completed in one day. Remember to treat your hair for at least a week after the first treatment.
- Don't wear hats with your friends.
- Apply essential oils to your hair to kill lice. Sleep with this oil still in your hair. Wash your hair until all the olive oil or other oil is clean. Wrap in plastic. Don't let toddlers play with plastic bags to prevent them from suffocating.
- Check your hair every two weeks.
- People living with tick carriers should be checked as well.
- Wash your hair with hot water.
- Since lice can pass from one garment to another, it is best to separate the clothes that have been used from those that have not.
- Items that cannot be machine dried can be put in a black plastic bag and left out in the sun for a day or two. Even if the weather isn't too hot, the plastic will heat up the fleas and kill them.
- Try not to scratch your head. Even if it's itchy, if you scratch too much, you'll make it bite more.
- If your child has nits, remember to keep them away from other children.
- Read all instructions for using flea spray completely. Keep in mind that this ingredient is a pesticide and can seep into your scalp.
- Use a shampoo containing tea tree oil all year round to prevent lice.
- Vacuum everywhere: bed, pillows and sofa.
- To prevent future infections, consider separating anything that looks suspicious, such as a hat from a thrift store - in a tight-fitting plastic bag for two weeks before entering your home. Avoid trying on hats at secondhand sales, or hanging your coat in public where it may be contaminated.
- If you can't use flea spray on your furniture, use a large blanket to cover it for a few weeks. This method can be done in the main area where children often play.
- Make sure that you do each step correctly and slowly in order to succeed.
- If possible, trim your hair as it will be much easier to get rid of lice on short hair than on long hair.
- If you're a man, consider shaving your hair completely with a disposable knife. Keep your head clean and shaved like this for at least two weeks.
Warning
- Don't put anything over your head for more than the recommended time. This can cause scalp damage.
- Do not share combs if the lice have spread to more than 1 person in the house.
- Do hair treatments in the bath.
