There are a variety of plants that you can grow in Minecraft to use as food, make drinks, decorations, and paint. This article teaches you how to grow different plants in Minecraft.

Method 1 of 4: Growing Wheat
Step 1. Destroy the tall grass
You can destroy tall grass with your hands or a sword. Some tall grasses will produce seeds when crushed. To destroy grass, click on it, or press the right trigger button on the game controller (controller).
Step 2. Collect the seeds
When you see a seed drop, collect it by walking past it. The seeds will automatically go to inventory.
Step 3. Make a hoe
You can make a hoe using a craft table. Prepare two sticks and two blocks or sticks of material of your choice, and select, or place them in the crafting table boxes according to the following positions:
- Place the stick in the middle square, and the bottom center box. Sticks can be made of wooden plank blocks, which can be made of wood.
- Place wooden plank blocks, stone blocks, iron blades, or diamonds in the top-middle, and top-left squares.
- Click and drag the hoe to the inventory.
Step 4. Loosen the soil
Attach a hoe and use it on the ground or grass to loosen it.
To install a hoe, open the inventory and place it on the toolbar. Press the number corresponding to the toolbar box on the keyboard, or press the right and left shoulder buttons on the controller to highlight another toolbar box. Aim the sight at a block of grass or soil and press the left trigger button on the controller to loosen the soil
Step 5. Plant the seeds
To plant a seed, place it in the toolbar and highlight the toolbar box. Then, aim the sight at loose soil and right click or press the left trigger button on the controller to plant the seeds.
Step 6. Wait a moment
The seeds will grow into plants, which can be harvested when they turn yellow. Left click to harvest crops.
Make sure the garden is made near a water source because it will make plants grow faster
Method 2 of 4: Growing Carrots and Potatoes
Step 1. Get carrots and potatoes
Carrots and potatoes can be found in the village gardens. When the carrots and potatoes are fully grown, click or press the right trigger on the controller to destroy them with your hand or sword. Each block of carrots yields several carrots. Walk past it to put it in your inventory.

The melon or pumpkin is ready to be harvested when there is a melon or pumpkin block next to the plant.
Method 4 of 4: Growing Other Plants
Step 1. Plant a sapling
Saplings can be obtained by crushing tree leaves. Plant it on a block of dirt or grass.
Step 2. Plant sugar cane
Sugar cane can be found in the wild, next to a river. Sugarcane can be planted next to water.
Step 3. Plant the cocoa
Cocoa (cocoa pod) can be found in forest trees. Cocoa can be grown in forest wood.
Step 4. Plant the vines
Tendrils can be found in forest trees. This plant can be grown anywhere. Harvest vines with scissors.
Step 5. Plant the cactus
Cacti can be found in the desert. Cacti can be planted in definite blocks. Harvest with care!
Step 6. Plant the mushrooms
Mushrooms can be found in swamps, large taga trees, and dark places like caves. Mushrooms can be grown in dark areas with light levels below 13. If planted in mycelium blocks or podzol, mushrooms can grow in any light level.
Step 7. Plant a nether wart
Nether wards can be found in the Nether Fortress. This plant can be planted in soul sand.
Step 8. Plant flowers
Flowers can be found in the wild on grass blocks. Flowers can be planted in the grass; You can only move flowers from one place to another.
You can get bonemeal and right click on the ground; If you are lucky, you can get flowers
Tips
- Most plants can be grown and cared for. There are also many plants that can only be found and harvested from the wild.
- Some plants will change color, depending on the biome in which they grow.
- Bonemeal can grow many plants instantly. This object is made by attaching bones to a raft grid. To use it, right click on the plant. For versions 1.7.0 and later, one bonemeal will no longer be able to grow crops instantly (you will need to use 3-4 bonemeal).
- Some plants can be put in pots as decoration. You will need to make a pot. Plants that can be put into pots are saplings, mushrooms, flowers, cacti, and dead shrubs.
