If you want to pretend to be in a trance once in a while for a Halloween party or to prank your friends and family, you can do so simply by imitating some of the behaviors and personalities below. Complete the behavior change with convincing makeup, and you'll look like a real ghost possessed.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Displaying a Sudden Personality Change
Step 1. Be defensive, quiet, and withdrawn
One of the signs of a possessed person is a sudden change in personality. People who are normally happy and sociable suddenly become quiet and withdrawn, followed by a negative and hostile attitude. So, be quiet and only speak when spoken to.
- Answer in a monotone voice devoid of emotion, and show defensiveness when asked why your behavior has changed.
- You can also imitate words in a sarcastic voice, repeating whatever they say sinisterly before suddenly walking away.
Step 2. Don't show interest in all your hobbies
Show a lethargic demeanor and enjoy nothing. When asked for an opinion or when friends and family invite you to chat, respond with a "Whatever" with a gloomy expression and a dreamy look.
Step 3. Let out a verbal outburst of emotion
Make angry and unexpected comments in the middle of a casual chat or quiet dinner. Show a strong and explosive reaction to something ordinary. Make it seem as if your comments and reactions are out of control.
- Show a confused and scared face after venting your emotions. The explosion had to end as quickly as it came so that the people around were shocked and confused.
- Make a loud, sharp sound, and speak faster than your normal tone.
- Jerking the body a little like a muscle spasm.
Step 4. Bring out tired and empty eyes
Step into a trance as if you were sleepwalking. Put on a tired face and demeanor as if you didn't sleep well or eat enough.
- When someone stops you or grabs your attention, squint slightly and stare at the person without a word before returning to a blank facial expression.
- Do not exaggerate. You need to put on a tired and slightly bored face. If it's too dramatic, your acting won't be convincing.
Step 5. Place strange books and pictures carelessly
Put books on the occult and draw strange symbols where people will see them. Set them to watch you draw the symbol on the paper over and over again as if in a trance, until the pen pierces the paper. Show a confused expression.
- Minimize these incidents, maybe just once or twice. If your room is suddenly filled with incense, kris, and other supernatural items, people don't necessarily believe it.
- Incidents like these instill the idea in the minds of friends and family that there is an evil being within you. So, don't overdo it so that it exposes your charade.
Step 6. Do some scary things in public
Try sitting against a wall and laughing hysterically. Set it to appear as though you're chatting with an invisible person in a dark corner. Rock your body back and forth while repeating certain words with a sigh. When passing other people, make a hissing sound.
- This creepy behavior also shouldn't be overdone. Start with one incident, then increase in frequency and get more and more bizarre.
- Don't be too dramatic because you might get into trouble at school or work. If you get into trouble, all the fun of this charade will be lost.
Method 2 of 3: Using Makeup to Look In A Trance
Step 1. Apply a pale concealer on your face, neck and lips
Choose a concealer that is a few shades lighter than your natural skin tone. Blend evenly to create a pale face. You can also add cream or white powder on top of the concealer.
- To make the pale impression look even more even and convincing, apply concealer / white cream on the chest, hands, and visible skin.
- Cover with transparent powder. The powder will make the makeup last longer.
Step 2. Apply brown, gray, or purple eyeshadow under the eyes
Use a brush to apply matte brown and purple eyeshadow under your eyes to make your eyes look sunken. Add gray to create dimension.
- For an extreme look, apply eyeshadow to the inner corners of the eyes, lids, and creases.
- Apply a little black eye shadow in the inner corner, in addition to purples, browns, and grays, for a more dramatic effect.
Step 3. Define the cheekbones
Apply a matte brown or gray eye shadow in a straight line below the cheekbones. This contour will create the impression of a gloomy and malnourished face. Blend evenly.
- The goal is the appearance of an unhealthy face, but not seen wearing cosmetics.
- The contour line should start at the hairline above the cheeks and work down to the cheekbones, then end 2 cm from either side of the mouth.
Step 4. Color the eyes, cheeks and nose with red makeup
Apply a pink, dark red, or bright red lip color or eyeshadow to your lids, inner corners, and under your eyes. Add a little red at the tip of the nose. Use a red lip pencil on the tear line (inner edge of the lid, above the lashes), which will make you look sore and tired.
- Blend red makeup evenly so it looks more natural. Do not make it obvious you are wearing cosmetics.
- After running the red lip pencil on the tear line, use the tip of a cotton bud to lightly smudge it. The lines will blend in and look more natural.
Step 5. Define and deepen the facial lines
With a small angled brush, apply a light brown (or gray) eyeshadow to the lines and creases of your face. Focus on the line that runs from the nose to the side of the mouth, and the line that goes down from the corner of the mouth when you frown.
- Don't forget to darken the lines that appear between the eyebrows when you bring them closer together, as well as the lines that appear on the forehead when the eyebrows are raised as high as possible.
- Emphasizing and deepening facial lines with dark makeup will make you look lethargic, tired, and angry.
- Apply it in such a way that the makeup doesn't appear too dark or too obvious.
Step 6. Draw the veins on the cheeks and forehead
Use a small angled brush and blue or green eyeshadow to draw the veins on your cheeks and forehead. To create a scary impression, let your hands shake a little while drawing.
- If you want the color to stand out, moisten the brush slightly before applying it to the eyeshadow.
- Blue or green gel eyeliner or cream eyeshadow are also good options for drawing blood vessels.
Step 7. Smooth with white or transparent powder
The powder will make the "blood vessels" visible under the skin. Powder also makes the whole face makeup long lasting and not shiny.
Use a sponge or large brush to apply the powder for a light, even effect
Step 8. Create dry and chapped lips
Pinch your lips and fill in the creases with dark eye shadow or pencil. Apply pink/bright red/dark red eye shadow on the inner side of the lips. This makeup will reinforce the impression of dehydration and make the inside of the mouth look more red and blotchy.
Step 9. Make hair look greasy and dull
Spray water / gel / hairspray and smooth it with your fingers so that the hair looks dirty and falls to frame the face. Leave your hair loose and messy.
If you don't wash it for a few days, the illusion you create will only get stronger
Step 10. Darken fingernails and fingertips to make them look dirty
Apply black eye shadow under the nail and around it. Sweep with your fingers so that the dirty impression is more on the nails, and less towards the fingers.
Paint some of the cuticles with a reddish-brown liquid lipstick to create the impression of traces of blood
Method 3 of 3: Displaying Physical Chaos
Step 1. Get up screaming
Nightmares are a common sign of possession. So pretend you have bad dreams. Shout something incomprehensible and move around so wildly that you look messy and sweaty when someone comes to check on you. Open your eyes as wide as you can and make sure you have a frightened expression on your face.
- When asked what your dream was, respond with anger and hysterical shaking of your head as if you can't express what you saw in your dream.
- The most effective time to fake a nightmare is between midnight and 2 a.m. At that time, other people in the house have not slept well so it is easier to wake up and be more alert.
Step 2. Start practicing yoga and other strength and flexibility exercises
In movies, people who are in a trance are usually depicted as contorting their bodies. A possessed person also shows powers beyond human strength. You can increase your strength and flexibility through yoga, light stretching, and weight training.
- Set your position to look awkward after the "nightmare". Keep an expressionless face.
- To avoid injury, stretch your muscles while no one is looking before starting the incident.
- Choose a simple contortion position. You don't need extreme postures to scare people.
Step 3. Pretend you're in a trance and don't blink for long
If someone tries to talk to you or move your body, don't answer, stiffen your body with your eyes unfocused. Try to make it difficult for other people to move you. Show that you are not aware.
- When the trance stops, act as if nothing happened. Deny if anyone wants to talk about it.
- Show signs of memory loss, and hint that you can't remember certain periods of time.
Step 4. Practice rolling your eyes so that only the whites are visible
Turn your face forward, then point your eyes as far up as possible, but don't move your head. Move the eye up until you can no longer move it, then lower the lid to hide the remaining part of the iris.
- Make sure the eyes are not completely closed when lowering the lids. Practice with your phone's camera, and shoot in video and pictures.
- Sometimes it's easier if you close your eyes first. Close your eyes, look up at the ceiling (with your eyes still closed), then open them while still looking up.
Step 5. Practice moving your face and creating painful expressions
Exorcists say that people who are in a trance can move their faces in extreme and frightening ways. The facial expressions convey that they are in excruciating pain. So, start practicing in front of a mirror.
- Once you've mastered a few facial expressions, use them in "nightmare" acts and other weird incidents you design.
- If possible, use other additions to enhance the effect of movement and facial expressions.
- The vomiting scene in the movie The Exorcist is very famous. So, it can be very entertaining if you include vomit in one of the incidents.
Step 6. Learn some new language or old Javanese
In horror movies, people who are in a trance often speak ancient languages, but any language that sounds foreign will annoy and shock friends and family if they suddenly hear it from your mouth. If you don't have time to learn a new language, learn just a little bit to add a spooky effect.
- Languages that can easily be used to scare people are ancient songs such as Lingsir Wengi. The tone of this song is scary, but spoken without it is enough to make people wary.
- Be careful about using another language if a friend or family member is learning it. Don't let your brother tell you that your accent and pronunciation are terrible.
- Another option is to babble indefinitely. If you prefer to babble, make sure your babbling is like a foreign language, but include pauses and voice changes.
Step 7. Practice the scary sound
In the movie, when a demon speaks through a possessed person, the sound is very low, evil, and hoarse. Play with your voice to see how many different sounds you can make. Look for instructional videos to increase vocal range, especially in low voices.
- Record sound with cell phone. Use the app to make the sound deeper and scary, then play it in the middle of the night or when you're with other people.
- Include other vocalizations such as squeaks, hisses, growls, and screams. Use the variety of sounds between sentences or words.
