Ninja turtles have always looked cool since 20 years ago until now. If you need a costume for a Halloween party, a thematic evening, or an outfit for a Sunday trip, this is a great place to start making those costumes.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Tortoise Shell
Step 1. Gather the costume materials
Focus on the top you will wear. For the legs, use tight green sweatpants (try to match the color of the shirt you will be wearing). These pants will be left as is, but you'll need to tinker with the shirt a bit. Here's what you'll need:
-
A green t-shirt or long sleeve
-
Yellow and brown fabric paint
-
Paper plate
-
Foam brush
-
Cardboard box
Step 2. Insert the cardboard into the t-shirt
The cardboard acts as a barrier to prevent the paint from being absorbed onto the reverse side of the garment. If you don't have used cardboard, use another hard material to make sure the painting process doesn't get dirty.
- Place the shirt on the floor and smooth it out. The inserted cardboard should be slightly narrower than the width of the shirt when stretched.
- If you're wearing a T-shirt, consider wearing a green long-sleeved shirt underneath.
Step 3. Draw a large yellow square in the center of the shirt
For ideas or examples, look online and look for artist designs for turtle or other animal costumes. This yellow part is the underside of the turtle's shell -- make sure it's the right size for your body.
Use paper plates as pallets to make your work easier. You can throw it away as soon as your job is done without needing to clean it
Step 4. Draw lines with brown paint on the yellow squares you have made to compose the basic parts of the shell
Because there are too many variations on the base of this shell, no design is 100% correct. But the standard design should at least include a thin line at the edge of the yellow square and other lines dividing the box into six sections, with one line running right through the center of the box.
If you want to make a very strong turtle, you may want to design the stripes so that they look like the stripes on the abdominal muscles. Do this while you wait for your shirt to dry
Method 2 of 3: Shell Part
Step 1. Arrange the ingredients in a relieved area
This part is a little ambitious and can make your workspace a mess, so lift all the things on the table, put some old newspapers, prepare a drink and get to work. Here's what you should prepare:
-
An old turkey placemat
-
A large number of used newspapers (more than the newspapers that line your work area)
-
Equipment for making paper pulp -- bowl, water, white glue or flour
-
Scissors
-
Brown and dark green paint (or tape)
-
A drill (or something to make a hole in the bottom of a turkey)
-
Wide brown ribbon
Step 2. Bend the base of the turkey until it resembles a shell
Hold the edge of the base and apply a little pressure. Trim the corners. When you do this, the shape of the base becomes round. Try changing the shape to be more circular.
Step 3. Cover the base with pulp
Use 2 parts sugar or 1 part flour, make a pulp using water and put in strips of newspaper 5 cm wide. Don't care about the length.
- Coat the entire outer surface of the shell. Make sure all the parts are covered and the layer you create is even. If you want to add texture by thickening the layers, you can do that -- but the shape of this turkey base should already resemble a shell.
- Dry for a few hours.
Step 4. Draw the tortoise shell pattern on the base you've covered
To make the process easier, paint the base with white paint before doing this. Use an example of a hexagonal pattern from the internet and follow the example -- the shell will look like a soccer ball…just like. But in the end, you're free to be creative in making your shell -- you can also draw horizontal lines.
You'll either be masking it or painting it, so don't worry about any streaks, as you'll be covering the surface pretty soon
Step 5. Paint or apply tape to the shell
Use green tape and brown paint (or vice versa) if you want to accentuate the texture. Working with paint is much easier, but the tape will make the shell look sturdier.
If you're painting it, it's probably best if you layer it on. Be patient. Dry after you finish painting
Step 6. Punch two holes in the top and bottom of the shell, for a total of four
You'll be threading the straps through these holes, so position them in the same position as the straps on a backpack.
It's easier to use a drill to punch holes in the shell, but any tool that can go through the layers is fine as well. If you don't use a drill, make sure that the hole size matches the size of the drill bit
Step 7. Insert the tape through the top hole
Don't be in a rush to cut the ribbon -- you don't know how long you'll need yet. Place the shell on your back, carry it on your shoulder and connect it with the hole at the bottom. Adjust the length of the ribbon, and add an extra 7.5 - 10 cm to make a knot. Then, cut the ribbon and start working on the other side.
Make a knot on the top and bottom holes. Do this while the shell is hanging on your shoulder, so ask a friend to help you
Method 3 of 3: Final Solution
Step 1. Prepare the materials for the belt and headband
A good ninja turtle costume should include all the details. Otherwise, you are just an ordinary turtle. Take these items:
-
Wide brown ribbon
-
Cardboard cut into circles
-
White paper
-
Markers with colors that represent the turtle of your choice
-
Wide band in tortoise color of your choice
Step 2. Measure the length of the tape around your waist
Cut the ribbon so that it becomes a loose belt of fabric.
Step 3. Cut the cardboard and paper to make several circles that have a diameter of about 7.5 cm
Write the ninja turtle letter of your choice on white paper (and color it with a marker according to the color of your turtle), then attach it to the cardboard you have cut out.
Step 4. Attach the loop to your belt
Use tape or glue and staples. If you don't want to show the knots on your belt, use the loop to cover the section.
Letters should be on the front and center of the belt. Make sure that the belt is tight enough so it won't change positions
Step 5. Cut the ribbon for your head, arms, and legs
Customize the color with the identity of the ninja turtles you choose. The headband will be in the middle of your forehead, the armband will wrap around your biceps, while the legband will wrap around your calves.
If your tape is wide enough, you can make eye holes and use it as a mask
Step 6. Create a mask with face paint
Color the area around your eyes. Customize with the ninja turtle color of your choice. This is an easier alternative than using a bandana that you have to punch holes in first.
Paint the face up to the eyebrows, under the eyes, on the protrusion of the nose, and the line of the ears. Don't make the mask too wide
Step 7. Put on your costume
Now it's time to go outside after you've added a wedge to the inside of your costume (you can use a cotton swab or pillow to do this), unless you're a bodybuilder. Enlarge your chest, biceps and thighs. Shape as you wish.
Filling this costume is not required. However, your costume will get more attention if you do it
Tips
- Buy some cheap plastic guns and clip them to your belt.
- Colored socks that are cut can also replace the function of colored bands.
- Allocate time to dry each glued/colored area.
