Vinegar can remove dirt and discoloration from foggy and discolored headlights. You can get rid of the stuck-on dirt by cleaning or spraying the headlights with vinegar. If your headlights are foggy or yellowed, use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar to clean them. You can also use vinegar to make candles that you can apply to your headlights. This can prevent foggy headlights in the future.

Method 1 of 3: Cleaning Dust and Dirt
Step 1. Mix vinegar and water
To make a glass-cleaning vinegar solution, mix water with white vinegar. For example, you can mix 3 cups of water with 1 cup of vinegar.

Step 2. Spray glass cleaning vinegar on the headlights
Put the vinegar and water solution into an empty spray bottle. Spray the solution on the headlights. Make sure the entire surface of the headlights is sprayed with vinegar. Leave it for a few minutes to make it easier to remove dirt.
Step 3. Wipe off the dirt using a microfiber cloth
Use a clean microfiber cloth to clean the vinegar solution on the headlights. It can remove insects, visible dirt, and other adhering debris. Clean the headlights in a circular motion to avoid scratching the headlights. Most dirt will come off easily. You can scrub the headlights if there is stubborn dirt.
- The headlights may remain yellow or foggy after the dirt has been removed. You can solve this problem using a mixture of baking soda powder and vinegar.
- You can repeat this process many times to remove any adhering dirt.
Method 2 of 3: Cleaning Headlights Using Vinegar and Baking Soda
Step 1. Mix vinegar with baking soda powder
Mix white vinegar with baking soda powder in a cork cup or measuring bowl. The mixture will foam.
For example, mix 4 tablespoons of white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Since results will vary, adjust the amount of vinegar or baking soda as needed
Step 2. Apply the mixture on the headlights
Dip a clean cloth in the bowl of the vinegar and baking soda mixture. Apply the cloth to the headlights. Make sure you grease all the headlights, including the edges. Apply the cloth in circular motions so that the mixture adheres evenly.
Step 3. Rinse off the vinegar and baking soda solution using clean water
Clean the headlights using water. Baking soda powder that is still attached will cause a white mist on the lamp. Continue to rinse the headlights until they are clean and shiny. After cleaning, dry the headlights using a clean cloth or tissue.
- You can rinse the headlights with a sponge. Wet a sponge with clean water, then use it to clean the baking soda powder on the headlights. You'll need to squeeze the sponge and wet it again to completely remove the baking soda powder.
- You can wash your headlights with a spray bottle filled with water. Spray the headlights and then wipe off the remaining water until the baking soda powder is completely gone.
Step 4. Repeat if necessary
You may have to repeat this process. Reapply the mixture to the headlights, scrub and clean.
Method 3 of 3: Applying Vinegar Wax
Step 1. Heat the candle
Combine 1 cup of flaxseed oil, 4 tablespoons of carnauba wax, 2 tablespoons of beeswax, and cup of apple cider vinegar. Bring the mixture to a boil using a double boiler. Heat the wax and stir constantly until the wax melts.
- Carnauba wax can be purchased at a repair shop or automotive supply store.
- If you don't have a double boiler, put the ingredients in a tin can. Place the can in a pot of boiling water. Be careful when lifting the can, you could scald your hands.
Step 2. Cool the wax in a separate container
Once the wax has melted, pour the wax solution into a different container, such as a Pyrex bottle or measuring cup. Allow the wax solution to cool until it hardens. Once hard, the wax is ready to use.
If you use a container with a lid, you can save the cooled wax for later use
Step 3. Apply wax to the headlights
Once the wax has cooled, you can buff it off with a clean cloth. Apply to headlights. Apply in a circular motion on all parts of the headlights.
Step 4. Wipe off the wax using a clean cloth
Use a different clean cloth to clean the wax. Make sure there are no wax residues on the headlights. The headlights will look shiny and shiny.
