Lost the wrench to unscrew the locking wheel nut? Here's how to remove a locking wheel nut without a wrench, as well as save money on very expensive towing.
Step
Step 1. Check that the wrench for the locking wheel nut is in the dashboard drawer, center console, trunk, or even under the seat
The wrench can also be found under the spare tire.
Step 2. Take a set of sockets and see which size fits the locking wheel nuts
The 12 point pretentious eye is the most suitable for use. There is a special spring designed to open the locking wheel nut.
Step 3. Use a screwdriver 1 size smaller, then place it on the wheel nut
Step 4. Punch/hammer the pretentious eye around the wheel nut using a sledgehammer
Step 5. When you have hammered the socket eye around the lock wheel nut, use the socket wrench to remove it
Step 6. Repeat the steps if needed
Tips
- Make sure the punches don't hit the tire rims.
- Contact an authorized dealer (store) if the wheel nut lock is installed by the manufacturer. When contacting him, ask if the dealer sells a locking wheel nut master kit so you can order the right type. You will have to find another way to remove the locking wheel nuts if they are not officially sold by the vehicle manufacturer.
