Do you lead a cheerleading or dance team and want to know how other teams get their own mix of music? Of course you are curious! Do you want to get your own mix of music, but can't afford it yet? Try making your own mix music at home using your computer!
It takes a little practice, but you can learn it easily. After understanding the process, you can create a simple work or be creative and create various works for your activities or needs. We'll show you how.
Step
Step 1. Get the required program
Download a music editing program. There are several good programs to use.
Audacity is a program that can be run on Mac computers, PCs, Linux, and several other operating systems-and it's free to use
Step 2. Find a few different songs that sound good together
Let your team members help you choose songs.
Look for songs that have the same beat or mood, or look for songs with the same tempo as your activity
Step 3. Open the song in a sound editing program
At the same time, create a new sound document.
- Find the snippet for each song that you want to use.
- Trim each piece and place them in order in a new, empty sound file.
Step 4. Add sound effects
You can buy CDs or download thousands of sound effects to add to the excitement of your cheers. Cut and intertwine those sound effects, and overlay them across parts of your music.
Step 5. Remember that timing is important
Make sure the final result of your music meets your needs. Listen carefully to joint music with team members, and ask for their opinion. After listening to it a few times, you and your team members will get used to the rhythm or the way the music goes!
Step 6. Copy your merged music to a CD
Safe! You've made a great mix of music, and now it's time to put that music to work. Make copies for your friends, share them, and get your team ready for action!
Tips
- Change the tempo of the music. Don't use a fast tempo for the entire set of songs. Slow down certain parts, then increase the tempo again.
- Make sure certain movements "fit" with the sound effects you enter. When creating a piece, make music, think about your choreography, then place sound effects on the parts that fall on certain movements.
- With a music editing program, you can cut, paste, sample, or overwrite music with ease. You can also speed up or slow down the tempo of the music. This way, you can use songs with a slightly too fast tempo and slow down the tempo to suit your overall music.
- Listen to the music used by other teams. Don't use songs that are too often played on the radio or used by other teams.
- Think about the music theme for the event/activity at hand. For example, if the theme is sports, use songs about sports. You can even take the final step by choosing a costume that matches the theme of the event/choreography.
- Make sure you prepare a blank CD or two!
- Make original music. Try using songs from indie artists to come up with new and cool mixes.
Warning
- Be careful when downloading free music on the internet. Besides being illegal, this can trigger the spread of viruses to computers.
- Don't put your skills to use the first time you create a mix for an important competition. Practice first!
- Make sure you make a backup copy of the work you created. You may need those parts for future practice/choreography.
