This wikiHow teaches you how to cache temporary internet files stored by Google Chrome on both the desktop version of the browser and the Chrome mobile app.
Step
Method 1 of 2: For Desktop Browser
Step 1. Open Google Chrome
The app icon looks like a red, yellow, green, and blue ball.
Step 2. Click
It's in the upper-right corner of the browser window. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Select More tools
It's in the middle of the drop-down menu. Once selected, a pop-out menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Click Clear browsing data…
It's in the pop-out menu. Once clicked, the “Browsing Data” window will be opened.
Step 5. Click the Basic tab
It's in the upper-left corner of the "Browsing Data" window.
If you want to clear the Chrome website settings cache, click the “ Advanced ”.
Step 6. Click the "Time range" drop-down box
This box is at the top of the window. A drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 7. Click All time
This option is in the drop-down menu. With this option, all files in the browser cache will be deleted.
Step 8. Check the "Cached images and files" box
It's in the middle of the window.
- Uncheck the other boxes on this page if you only want to cache files.
- If you want to clear Chrome's website settings cache, check the "Cookies and other site data" box.
Step 9. Click CLEAR DATA
It's a blue button in the lower-right corner of the window. After that, Chrome will delete all the files and images in the cache from your computer and browser.
If you check the " Cookies and site data " box, Chrome will also empty any cached versions of web pages. With this step, the web page can be updated when you revisit it. This option will usually log you out of most accounts accessed
Method 2 of 2: For Mobile Devices
Step 1. Open Google Chrome
Tap the Chrome app icon, which looks like a red, yellow, green, and blue ball.
Step 2. Touch
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 3. Touch History
It's in the middle of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Touch Clear Browsing Data…
It's red text in the lower-left corner of the screen.
On the Android device, touch “ CLEAR BROWSING DATA… ” at the top or bottom of the screen.
Step 5. Select the timeframe (on Android devices)
If you are using an Android device, tap the "Time range" menu at the top of the screen, then select “ all time ” in the displayed menu.
This option is selected by default on iPhone and cannot be changed
Step 6. Check the "Cached Images and Files" box
This box is in the middle of the page. With this option, website files and images stored in the Chrome browser will be deleted so that some of the storage space on your phone or tablet can be freed up.
- On Android devices, touch the tab “ ADVANCED ” in the upper right corner of the screen first.
- You can uncheck each of the other options if you don't want to delete any other browsing data.
- If you want to clear website data stored in your browser, also check the box " Cookies, Site Data " (iPhone) or " Cookies and site data " (Android).
Step 7. Touch Clear Browsing Data
It's a red text icon in the center of the screen.
On the Android device, touch “ CLEAR DATA ” in the lower right corner of the screen.
Step 8. Touch Clear Browsing Data when prompted
After that, Chrome will delete the files and images stored in the cache from the browser and the phone's storage space. If you select "Cookies, Site Data", the website data will also be cleared and you will be logged out of your account on most of the sites you have accessed.
