This wikiHow teaches you how to search for specific words or phrases in a PDF document using the free Adobe Reader DC program, the Google Chrome browser (for Mac and PC), or the Preview program (for Mac).

Method 1 of 3: Using Adobe Reader DC
Step 1. Open the PDF document in the Adobe Acrobat Pro program
This program is indicated by the Adobe Reader icon with the letters " A" special. After the program is opened, click " File, then click " Open " Select the desired PDF file and click " Open ”.
If you don't have the Adobe Reader DC program, you can download it for free by visiting https://get.adobe.com/reader/ in your web browser and clicking “ Download Now ”.
Step 2. Click the Edit button on the menu bar
Step 3. Click Find
Step 4. Type the word or phrase you want to search for in the "Find" dialog box
Step 5. Click Next
The next word or phrase you search for will be marked in the document.
Click the button " Next " or " Previous ” to locate the word or phrase you are looking for in the document.
Method 2 of 3: Using Google Chrome Browser
Step 1. Open the PDF document via Chrome browser
In the Chrome browser, you can access PDF documents on the web or open PDF files already stored on your computer by right-clicking on the file and then clicking “ Open with " and choose " Google Chrome ”.
For Mac computers that don't have a two-button mouse, you can press the Control key and click or touch the trackpad with two fingers
Step 2. Click the button
It's in the upper-right corner of the browser window.
Step 3. Click Find
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Type in the word or phrase you want to search for
Chrome will mark the results displayed in the document when you type a word/phrase.
The yellow bar on the right side of the page slider marks where the appropriate word/phrase is on the page
Step 5. Click option

to move to the next or previous result on the document page.
Method 3 of 3: Using Preview on a Mac
Step 1. Open the PDF document through the Preview program
To open it, double-click the Preview program icon (it looks like several screenshots stacked on top of each other), then click the “ File ” on the menu bar and select “ Open… ” from the drop-down menu. Select the file you want to open in the dialog box and click Open ”.
Preview is Apple's built-in image review program that's automatically included in almost all versions of Mac OS
Step 2. Click the Edit button on the menu bar
Step 3. Click Find
Step 4. Click Find…
Step 5. Type the word or phrase you want to search for in the "Search" field
It's in the upper-right corner of the program window.
Step 6. Click the Next button
All entries of the word or phrase you are looking for will be marked in the document.
