Files that use the image exchange format or the DXF extension are a type of vector drawing document created using a computer-aided design (CAD) program, such as Autodesk output programs (eg AutoCAD and Fusion). Although created using CAD programs, the files are designed to be universal or can be opened using other free design programs for easier compatibility. Step 1. Download a CAD or graphic design program
You can choose one of these programs because DXF files are a universal type of vector format. Below is a program you can use to open a DXF file, as well as a link to get it.

Step 2. Install the program on the computer
After downloading the program's installation file, double-click the file to start the installation process. This process differs depending on the selected program. Therefore, the installation steps are also different.

Step 3. Run the app once installed
Click the program's desktop icon to run it and complete any additional installation steps required before the application can be used.

When you install a graphics or CAD program, it will automatically detect supported files on your computer and change the file icon to an icon similar to the program icon.

The file will open in the program you just installed so you can review or edit it. Once the file is opened, you can save it in a different format for use in other applications on your computer.

- The widely used CAD and graphic design programs are often offered for quite a significant price. However, there are several trial versions that can be used, of course with limited features or a certain period of use.
- The DXF file format was created by Autodesk so it's best if you open the file using Autodesk programs, such as AutoCAD or Autodesk Design Review.
