This wikiHow teaches you how to make potions in the Minecraft game. Potions can increase strength, restore health, or even harm the enemy depending on the material used.
Step
Part 1 of 6: Gathering Materials
Step 1. Go to the Nether
Some ingredients can only be found in the Nether so you have to go there to start making potions.
The Nether is a very dangerous place, especially for new players. Try setting the game difficulty to " Peaceful " while in the Nether so that your character doesn't die
Step 2. Gather the materials in the Nether
There are 2 items to get in the Nether:
- Nether Wart - This mushroom-like object can be found above ground in the Nether Fortress.
- Blaze rod (Blaze rod) - Blaze (one of the monsters in the game) will drop the blaze stick when killed. You may have to set the difficulty to " Easy " for Blaze to spawn here.
-
Soul Sands:
If you want to get more Nether Wart in Overworld, you can pick up some of these brown boxes that look like they have faces in them.
Step 3. Return to the normal world
Exit the Nether by returning to the Nether portal and jumping into it.
Step 4. Make a brewing stand and place it on the ground
Open the crafting table, place the 3 cobblestone blocks in the bottom box of the crafting table, place the blaze sticks in the middle box, then move the resulting brewer to your inventory. Select a brewer in your inventory, then select the soil to place the tool in.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the brewer icon, then tap 1 x to make brewers.
- On the console version of Minecraft, select a brewer and press X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox).
Step 5. Make a glass bottle
Open the crafting table, place the glass blocks in the middle left, bottom center, and center right squares. Next, move the resulting three glass bottles to the inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the glass bottle icon, then tap 3 x.
- On the console version of Minecraft, select the glass bottle icon, then press X or A.
Step 6. Make blaze powder
Open the crafting table, place the blaze wand in any box, then transfer the resulting blaze powder to your inventory.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the powder blaze icon, then tap 2 x.
- On the console version of Minecraft, select the powder blaze icon, then press X or A.
Step 7. Look for secondary materials
Basic potions can't have any effect, and must be accompanied by other ingredients in order to be used. The selected ingredients will determine the type of potion produced.
- Spider Eye (Spider Eye) - This item is dropped by Spider, Witch, and Cave Spider, which is used to make poison potions.
- Glistering Melon (Glistering Melon)- Melons like this can be made by placing 8 Gold Nuggets around the melon in the Crafting Table. This item is used to make instant health potions.
- Golden Carrot (Golden Carrot) - Can be made by placing 8 Gold Nuggets around the Carrot in the Crafting Table. This item is used to make night vision potions.
- Blaze Powder (Blaze Powder)- Can be made from one Blaze Wand dropped by Blaze. This will yield two Blaze Powders, which can be used to make power potions.
- Fermented Spider Eye - Can be made from spider eyes, mushrooms and sugar. This item is used to make a weakness potion.
- Pufferfish (Pufferfish) - You can get it by fishing. This item is used to make potions breathe underwater.
- Magma Cream (Magma Cream) - Dropped by a defeated Magma Cube, and can be made by combining blaze powder and slimeball. This item is used to make fire-resistant potions.
- Sugar - It is made from sugar cane, and is used for speed potions.
- Ghast Tears - Dropped by Ghast and hard to get because Ghast tends to float on lava. This item is used to make health regeneration potions.
- Rabbit's Foot - Dropped by a rabbit that has lost (with a drop rate of 2.5%). This item is used to make a jumping potion.
Step 8. Collect potion-altering items
Once a potion is made, you can process it into an advanced potion by adding another potion. Usually this will increase the duration of time the potion takes effect. You can also make a throwing potion that will splatter when it hits something.
- redstone - This item can be obtained by mining redstone ore. Usually this will result in 4 to 5 redstones. Add these ingredients to make a longer lasting potion.
- Glowstone Dust (Glowstone Dust) - You can get it by breaking glowstone blocks. Each one block can produce up to 4 glowstone dust. This can make the potion stronger, but with a shorter duration.
- Gun powder - You can get it by defeating Creeper, Ghast, and Witch. This item is used to make throwing potions.
- Fermented Spider Eye - This secondary ingredient can also be used to modify advanced potions. Usually this item can reverse or damage the effect of a potion.
Step 9. Fill the glass bottle
Find a water source while carrying a glass bottle, then select the water to put in a glass bottle. If you already have 3 glass bottles, it means you are ready to make potions.
Part 2 of 6: Concocting Potions
Step 1. Open the potion brewer
Select the brewer with your body facing it to open it.
Step 2. Place the bottle filled with water in the brewer
Click and drag the bottle into the three boxes at the bottom of the page.
- In Minecraft PE, tap the square, then tap the water bottle icon on the left side of the page.
- In the console version, press triangle or Y while choosing a bottle filled with water.
Step 3. Add Nether Wart
Place the Nether Wart in the box at the top of the crafting page.
Step 4. Add blaze powder
Click and drag the blaze powder into the top-left box of the brewer's window. The basic potion (known as the "Awkward Potion") will begin to be made.
- Skip this step if you are playing Minecraft PE.
- In the console version, press triangle or Y or while choosing blaze powder.
Step 5. Put the Awkward Potion into the brewer
Now you have the Awkward Potion as a base potion. You can modify this potion by adding secondary ingredients.
Step 6. Add secondary ingredients
Place secondary ingredients (such as rabbit's feet) in the top box of the brewer. The tool will mix the potion again.
The blaze powder from the first round can be used for 20 brewing cycles
Step 7. Move the resulting potion into the inventory
Now you can consume the potion.

Part 6 of 6: Making Throwable Potions
Step 1. Make a splash potion
This potion can be thrown. If thrown, cloud particles that have potion effects (eg slowness, speed, etc.) will appear for about 1 second. You can make this potion by mixing any of the ingredients in the table above with a pinch of gunpowder.
Awkward and Mundane potions can be turned into these potions
Step 2. Make a long-lasting potion
This potion is similar to the splash potion. However, the effect is more lasting and "lasts" in one place. To make this potion, insert Dragon's Breath (which is obtained in a glass vial when the Ender Dragon emits fire) into the very top of the potion brewer and insert one Sprinkle potion on one of the very top.
