You can update apps on your iPhone directly from the App Store, or through your computer using iTunes. There is an Updates tab that you can access in the lower right corner of the iOS App Store window. Using iTunes to update apps is a bit more complex, but the process allows updates to be downloaded and saved in case you ever need to downgrade an app.

Method 1 of 2: Updating Apps Through the App Store
Step 1. Open the App Store
If prompted, enter the Apple ID and password, then tap Sign in.
Step 2. Touch Updates
- On iOS 13, you won't find the "Updates" tab. Instead, tap your profile photo in the top-right corner of the screen (on any tab). On the next page, you will see the " Upcoming Automatic Updates " section and can see which updates can be installed.
- Except on iOS 13 model iPhones, available updates are indicated by a red notification bubble above the button. On iOS 13, notification flags or balloons are no longer displayed.
Step 3. Touch Update All
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- You can also tap the Update button next to each app if you only want to update certain apps.
- The icon of the app being updated will appear blurry on the home screen until the update process is complete. You can delay any updates via the home screen or stop the process by touching the Updates button on the App Store.
Method 2 of 2: Updating Apps Through iTunes
Step 1. Turn on iPhone
Step 2. Connect the device to the computer via USB
Step 3. Launch iTunes
The iTunes program may run automatically when you connect your device, depending on your computer settings.

Step 4. Click the page selection menu
This menu is between the navigation arrows and the iPhone icon, and is used to display various pages in iTunes.
Step 5. Click Edit
Step 6. Check the box next to Apps option
Step 7. Click Done
It's at the bottom of the menu. The application options will now appear in the drop-down menu.
Step 8. Click Apps
Step 9. Sign in using your Apple ID
Type in the account username and password, then click Sign in.
If you're already signed in to your Apple account on iTunes, you won't be prompted to sign back in
Step 10. Click Updates
All apps that need updating will be shown in the list.
The text “All apps are up to date” will appear in the middle of the page if there are no apps that need updating
Step 11. Click Update All Apps
It's in the lower-right corner of the update page. A buzzer sound will sound when the app is updated.
You can select an app and click the Update button next to the selected app if you only want to update certain apps
Step 12. Touch the iPhone icon
It's on the right side of the page selection menu.
Step 13. Touch Sync
The phone will immediately sync with the computer indicated by the progress bar at the top of the iTunes window. When you're done, all apps updated in iTunes will be updated on iPhone as well.
Tips
- The App Store home page icon will show a notification bubble when an app update is available. You can turn off the bubble by going to Settings > Notifications > App Store, and sliding the toggle next to “ Badge App Icon "to the off position.
- You can turn automatic updates on or off by going to Settings > iTunes & App Store, then sliding the toggle next to the “ Updates " in the segment " Automatic Downloads ” to the on or off position.
- If the app gets stuck while updating, try signing out of your Apple ID and logging back into the App Store. If that doesn't work, try using iTunes to sync the app.
