Smartphones are very useful if they can work. But otherwise, smartphones are just like expensive paperweights. If your BlackBerry hangs or is unresponsive, a quick reset might get it working again. Follow this guide to restore your BlackBerry.

Method 1 of 3: Hard Reset
Step 1. Open the battery cover on the back of the BlackBerry
Remove the battery from the phone.
Perform a hard reset on the BlackBerry Z10 by pressing and holding the Power button on the top of the phone for about 10 seconds
Step 2. Reinsert the battery after a few seconds
To be safe, wait up to 30 seconds and then put the battery back in the back of the phone.
Step 3. Close the battery cover
BlackBerry will reboot and function normally. You must restart the BlackBerry using the Power button.
Method 2 of 3: Soft Reset
Step 1. Press and hold the Alt key
This method will reset the BlackBerry without removing the battery. You can't do this method if your BlackBerry doesn't have a keypad.
Step 2. Press and hold the Right Shift key
Hold down the alt=""Image" key while holding down the Shift key.
Step 3. Press and hold the Backspace/Delete key
Make sure you keep the alt=""Image" and Shift keys pressed while holding down the Backspace/Delete key.
Step 4. Wait for BlackBerry to reset
When this happens, the screen will turn off. Now you can release the button. It may take a few minutes or more for the smartphone to return to normal settings.
Method 3 of 3: Factory Settings
Step 1. Open Options on the main screen
Factory settings, or security wipes, will erase all personal information and reset the phone to return to its fresh-out-of-the-box state.
Step 2. Select Security Settings
In Security Settings, select Security Wipe.
Step 3. Select what you want to delete
Check the box for each item you want to remove from your phone. If you want to delete the information entirely, make sure that each box is checked.
Step 4. Enter the code
To perform the deletion, you must enter a code. Type “blackberry” into the box then select Wipe.
Step 5. Wait for the phone to complete the wipe process
Your BlackBerry will reset several times during the deletion process. After the phone restarts, your data will be lost.
Tips
- Some of the reset instructions only apply to certain BlackBerry models, so you'll need to see the user manual first. Also check with your carrier provider to find out how to troubleshoot the phone. In addition, some manufacturers and wireless service providers may perform a master reset, master clean or factory reset. This process will erase non-BlackBerry related data and settings and restore the phone to factory settings.
- A BlackBerry hard or soft reset does not delete any stored data or settings. Only the master reset will erase everything from the phone memory, except for the factory settings.
- Not all BlackBerry phones display the right "Alt," "Shift" and "Backspace/Delete" keys in the same way on a QWERTY keyboard. However, the location of the buttons is the same. Refer to the phone's user guide to verify the lock.
