Google Chromecast lets you stream content from your phone or computer to an HDTV screen. With this inexpensive and easy-to-use device, you can unsubscribe from cable TV cheaply. Set up your Chromecast, and use it to watch from your favorite sites.

Method 1 of 3: Connecting Chromecast
Step 1. Unbox the Chromecast
Inside the Chromecast box, you'll find the Chromecast, USB cable, and charging cable.
Step 2. Locate the HDMI cable on the back or edge of your HDTV
You should also find out if your TV has a USB port to power the Chromecast. If your TV doesn't have a USB port, you'll need to provide a power outlet for your Chromecast.
Step 3. Connect the USB cable to the back of the Chromecast if you want to use the USB port to power the device
Otherwise, connect one end of the charger to the device, and the other end to a power outlet.
Step 4. Connect the Chromecast to the HDMI port on the TV
Step 5. Turn on your HDTV, then press the "Input" button
Find the HDMI input that matches your Chromecast. Matched inputs may be indicated by numbers, for example HDMI, HDMI2 or HDMI3.
Step 6. Complete the setup via smartphone or computer
Visit google.com/chromecast/setup to create your account, then note the name of the Chromecast setting.
Step 7. Download the Chromecast app to your phone or computer
If you are using a laptop, go to the download directory on your laptop and double-click the application installation file to install the application. Open the Chromecast app, then let the app find your Chromecast.
Step 8. Connect Chromecast
You will see the same alphanumeric code on the device and TV screens.
Step 9. Connect the Chromecast app to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer
Method 2 of 3: Using Chromecast with Mobile
Step 1. Download the Chromecast app on the App Store or Google Play
Open the app, then connect your device to your Chromecast with the guide above. You must be using the latest Chromecast app, so make sure you update the app regularly.
Step 2. Make sure your device is on the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast
Step 3. Download supported apps to the device. You can see a list of supported apps at
Step 4. Open the supported app, then select the content you want to stream
Step 5. Tap on Broadcast button
This button will turn blue once streaming from the device has started.
Method 3 of 3: Using Chromecast with a Laptop
Step 1. If you don't have Google Chrome yet, download the browser
Open the content you want to watch with Google Chrome. Chromecast is designed for use with Google Chrome.
Step 2. Click the Window menu > Extensions
If the Chromecast extension isn't already installed, click the Get More Extensions link, then install the extension.
You may need to restart your browser
Step 3. Look for the Broadcast button in the shape of a small square with a wave
Click the button when you are ready to start streaming.
Step 4. Visit sites designed for Google Chrome, including Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, HBO Go, Watch ESPN, Showtime Anywhere and Google Play
If necessary, log into your account on the site.
Step 5. Select the content you want to play, then click the Broadcast button
The Chromecast will pick up the signal from the browser and start playing content.
Step 6. Hold down the broadcast button to display browser tabs to Chromecast
Holding down the button allows you to use the tabcast option, which is the option to show any content from your computer.
