With Chromecast, you can broadcast your Chrome window to your TV or other screen. However, just like any other electronic item, Chromecast can be faulty too. The easiest way to fix this is to reset the Chromecast to factory settings. You'll have to set it up again after that, but it only takes a moment.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using the Chromecast Desktop App
Step 1. Open the Chromecast app on the computer
This application may be located on the desktop, in the Start menu, or in the Applications folder.
- If you don't have the Chromecast app installed, you can get it from cast.google.com/chromecast/setup/
- This method only works if you can connect to the Chromecast. If the Chromecast doesn't appear as a selectable device, look for a guide on WikiHow.
Step 2. Select Chromecast
If there are multiple Chromecasts on the network, select the Chromecast you want to convert.
Step 3. Click the button
Settings.
Step 4. Click the button
Factory Reset.
Click Reset to confirm. This will reset the Chromecast to factory settings. You'll need to reset the Chromecast dongle to use it.
Method 2 of 3: Using the Chromecast Phone App
Step 1. Download the Chromecast app from the Google Play Store on your Android device
You cannot perform factory settings from the iOS app. If you only have access to the iOS app, set up the Chromecast manually.
This method only works if you can connect to the Chromecast. If the Chromecast doesn't appear as a selectable device, look for a guide on WikiHow
Step 2. Tap the Menu button
This button is located in the upper left corner.
Step 3. Tap "Settings"
This will open the Settings menu for the Chromecast.
Step 4. Tap on “Factory reset Chromecast”
After confirming, Chromecast will return to factory settings. You'll need to re-run the Chromecast setup process.
Method 3 of 3: Using the Reset Button on Chromecast
Step 1. Find Chromecast on TV
Make sure you've plugged it in so it can be reset. Chromecast cannot be reset when unplugged.
Step 2. Press and hold the reset button
This button is located next to the Micro USB port on the end of the Chromecast dongle.
Step 3. Hold down the reset button for 25 seconds
The lights on the Chromecast will start flashing, and the TV screen will display the Chromecast logo and the message "Resetting to factory defaults".
Step 4. Set up Chromecast
Once it's reset, you'll need to re-run the Chromecast setup process before it can be used.
