Do you want to write your password down on paper so no one can see it, or do you want to send someone a secret message? Learn how to create messages in invisible ink, as if you were a secret agent.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Method One: Using Lemon Juice
Step 1. Squeeze half a lemon and place the juice in a bowl
Step 2. Add a few drops of water
Stir the two ingredients with a spoon.
Step 3. Dip a cotton bud into the mixture and write a message on white paper
You can also use bristles, toothpicks, pens, brushes or calligraphy pens instead of cotton buds.
Step 4. Let the writing dry
When the ink dries, your message will disappear and be invisible.
Step 5. Hold the paper close to the light bulb
Keep holding the paper close to the light bulb until the writing appears.
Method 2 of 4: Method Two: Using Baking Soda
Step 1. Combine 1/4 cup (60 ml) of baking soda with 1/4 cup (60 ml) of water in a bowl and mix with a pastry whisk or spoon
Step 2. Dip a cotton swab into the mixture
Use the cotton bud to write a message on a piece of white paper.
Step 3. Wait for the ink to dry
Step 4. Using a brush, brush the paper containing the message with grape juice, and wait for the writing to appear
Method 3 of 4: Method Three: Using Milk
Step 1. Dip a cotton swab in the milk
Step 2. Use the cotton bud to write a message on a piece of white paper
Let the milk dry.
Step 3. Hold the paper close to the light bulb
Because milk heats up more slowly than paper, your writing will reappear.
Method 4 of 4: Method Four: Using White Crayons
Step 1. Write a message on a piece of white paper using white crayon
Step 2. With a brush, brush the paper with any color watercolor (as long as it's not white)
The text you created will appear.
Tips
- You can replace white crayons with white wax to create an invisible message. Same with crayons, you can bring back your writing by brushing watercolors on the paper.
- To read a message written with lemon juice or milk, you can also place the paper under a piece of cloth, then iron the cloth so that the writing appears. Alternatively, place the paper in the oven at 350 F (177 C) for a few minutes until the writing appears.
- If you're using white crayons, you don't have to sweep the paper with watercolors. Bring the paper to the window during the day. Read the message with the paper slightly tilted. The results aren't quite clear, but you can still read them well and it's a lot easier this way.
