Part 1 of 5: Cultivate the Mindset of a Scholar
Step 1. Question everything

Part 2 of 5: Learn Outside the System
Step 1. Read a lot
- The best thing to learn without having to attend formal education is to read a lot. Read as much as you can at every opportunity. It can make you a scholar.

- This works better for skills than academic knowledge, but you can still find someone sympathetic enough to recommend some good books or other ways to learn.
Part 3 of 5: Get into a Good School
Step 1. Get good grades

Tips
- Libraries will always have someone who is an expert in a particular field. That person can help you study and send you the best books on what you want to learn.
- Take elective courses (when trying to get a bachelor's degree) in a guaranteed field.
- Go to conferences offered by specific national organizations that match your interests.
- Make sure you enjoy teaching and are friendly so you can interact with college kids.
- Remember that the appreciation of the teacher is very large. Teaching on campus means that your students want to be free, whereas normally in elementary through high school, students are in class because they have to, not because they want to.
- Stay humble. Don't get 'professor fever'. Just because you spend time in front of students, and literally, teach them a lot, doesn't mean you are a god who rules over everything in the universe.
- If you are going to a preschool, preschool, or public school, make sure that your degree level is aimed at transferring to a four-year school or college. Some education degrees for two years are not intended for transfers, but to make their students as market players (vocational).
- Be prepared to work as a TA or assistant professor to begin with. Most universities require experienced teachers.
