Starting a business as an internet service provider (PJI) is not an easy thing. In addition to requiring a large enough capital, you also have to prepare various necessary resources, such as network bandwidth, room cooling, and availability of electricity.
Step
Step 1. Find a suitable space to serve as a data center
Instead, choose a building with a raised floor model to make it easier for you to install cables.
Step 2. Purchase a UPS, generator, and HVAC engine
Generator sets and UPS are needed as backup power in case your city is hit by a power outage, and HVAC is needed to cool data center spaces. PJI grade networking equipment can generate destructive heat.
Step 3. Set up a peering contract with one or two upstream ISPs
This peering contract is required to provide internet connection.
Step 4. Ideally, set up at least two peering contracts
Most ISPs have more than 5 peering contracts to ensure network speed, stability and reliability.
Step 5. Purchase networking equipment online, for example through Kaskus or other networking related forums
Step 6. Purchase a high-speed fiber optic cable from the telecommunications company to connect your PJI to the upstream PJI
Step 7. Purchase an enterprise-grade router, switch, and computer
After all the devices are available, do the installation and configuration of the device. All these devices are the pulse of your PJI, and will determine the internet speed that customers receive. If you use cheap network devices, your customers will be disappointed.
Step 8. If your ISP is going to sell you a DSL-based internet connection, work with a telecommunications company
All new connection requests from customers must be processed through the telecommunications company because DSL networks run over telephone lines.
Step 9. If your PJI will sell web hosting services, prepare a computer for a virtual private server (VPS)
VPS allows service providers to share computer resources in data centers, and sell that share to customers. Customers can use a VPS to host their website.
