Step
Part 1 of 3: Making Milk Shakes
Step 1. Let the ice cream sit until the consistency is soft enough to serve/enjoy
The ideal temperature for the ice cream to use as the base for your milkshake is -7°C, but the temperature in your freezer may be as high as -18°C. Therefore, let the ice cream sit on the kitchen counter for a few minutes. Ice cream is ready to use when its consistency is soft enough and easy to scoop (like ready-to-eat ice cream), but not runny or melted.
- If you put your ice cream in the mixer when it's still too firm or too cold, you may have to add too much milk to melt it. The ratio between milk and ice cream is an important factor in making a delicious milkshake. Too much milk will certainly make your milkshake too runny.
- For the same reason, never add ice to a milk shake. The ice will only thin the milkshake and dissolve the flavor and softness. If you want a thinner milkshake, just add more milk.
Step 2. Add three scoops of ice cream to a blender or milk shaker
A milk shake mixer is a better option because it can whisk and aerate the mixture at the same time. If you're not ready to buy professional equipment, a regular kitchen blender or an immersion blender can still work.
- If you don't have such a device, use a large bowl and an egg beater to mix the ice cream and milk.
- While making the base mixture, prepare the glasses you want to use and store them in the refrigerator. The glass will feel cold when the milk shake is ready to be served.
Step 3. Pour in 60 ml of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and other additives
At this point, you can turn your vanilla milkshake into a chocolate malt milkshake, a strawberry milkshake, or even a caramel-flavored milkshake with pretzels and chocolate chips.
Step 4. Mix the ingredients for 1 minute
If you're using a blender, don't just start the engine and let it sit. Beat the ingredients in a blender and occasionally stir the mixture with a spoon. Follow the mixing pattern alternately. This method produces the same effect as the shaft on a milk shake mixer.
- Regardless of the whisking method followed (e.g. egg beater, stick blender, professional milk shaker), make sure the mixture remains thick. If you dip the spoon into the mixture and pull it off, the milkshake will pull slightly and stick to the spoon before it "falls off".
- If you like a clumpy milkshake, beat the mixture for only 30-45 seconds.
- If the mixture seems too thick, add a little milk.
- If the mixture seems too runny, add a scoop or half of ice cream and mix the ingredients again.
Step 5. Pour the milkshake into the cooled glass
Once the mixture has the right consistency and consistency, you can use a spoon to remove it from the blender and pour it into a glass. If the mixture melts or flows too quickly/easy, there's a good chance the milkshake mixture is too runny (or you whisked it too long) and needs to add more ice cream.
- Add the whipped cream over the whipped cream and one maraschino cherry (or regular cherry). You can also garnish the top of the milkshake with any additional ingredients you want (eg fresh strawberries for a strawberry-flavored milkshake).
- Serve the milkshakes with spoons and straws.
Part 2 of 3: Choosing Materials
Step 1. Choose high quality vanilla ice cream
For most milkshakes, you'll need to prepare a base of vanilla ice cream, even if you want to make a chocolate and strawberry flavored milkshake! Vanilla ice cream has a sweet enough taste so that added ingredients like flavored syrup, cookies, or candy won't make the milkshake taste too sweet.
- Look for ice cream products that are very dense. Choose two brands of ice cream of the same size (500 ml or 1 liter, for example) and hold each product with each hand. A heavier-tasting product may make a better base for a milkshake.
- Lighter ice cream contains more air. When mixing the ingredients for the milk shake, the air in the mixture will increase so that the consistency of the milk shake will not feel thick and creamy. Therefore, choose an ice cream product that is denser than ice cream that is very light / crumbly so that not too much air is contained in the base ingredients.
- Of course, you can use any flavor of ice cream you want, so if you want to experiment, you can choose a product other than vanilla ice cream. If you want to make mint milkshakes with chocolate chips, but don't want to go through the hassle of finding/preparing mint extracts and chocolate chips, opt for mint ice cream with chocolate chips.
Step 2. Choose high quality milk
Whole milk may be a better option for a milk shake because it has a richer taste and results in a thicker milk shake. However, if you prefer skim milk, soy milk, or nut milk, feel free to use them. Keep in mind that these dairy products tend to be more runny so you may need to reduce the amount of milk or add more ice cream to get the consistency you want.
If you can, look for high-quality milk produced by local farms. The better the quality of the ingredients added, the better the final result of your milkshake
Part 3 of 3: Trying Variations on the Milk Shake Recipe
Step 1. Make a chocolate malt milkshake
Add 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 60 ml of milk and 30 ml of malt powder to the blender.
Look for powdered malt products, not instant malted milk or liquid malt flavours. Malt powder can provide the most authentic taste
Step 2. Make a chocolate milk shake
Place 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 60 ml of milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 60 ml of chocolate syrup in a blender.
Look for a chocolate sauce with a high cocoa content for the best taste
Step 3. Make a strawberry flavored milkshake
Use 250 grams of strawberries (remove the petals) or 60 ml of strawberry syrup, 3 tablespoons of vanilla ice cream, 60 ml of milk, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Step 4. Make cookies-and-cream flavored milkshakes
Add 3 of your favorite cookies (crush by hand first) in a blender, along with 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 60 ml of milk, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Step 5. Make a milkshake with your favorite candy
Prepare a milkshake base mix with 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 60 ml of milk, and a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Before beating, add a handful of your favorite candy or candy bar (cut into small pieces).
Step 6. Make a salted caramel pretzel flavored milkshake and chocolate chips
Add a little caramel sauce, a handful of crushed pretzels, and chocolate chips to the malted milkshake base mixture. To make the base mixture, mix 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream with 60 ml of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Step 7. Make a banana cream pie flavored milkshake
Place 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream, 60 ml of milk, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 banana and pack of vanilla pudding mix powder into a blender.
