Have you always wished you could stop by Three Broomsticks for a refreshing glass of butterbeer? You may not be able to have butterbeer with Harry Potter and Hermione, but you can certainly make this drink in your own kitchen. Keep reading this article for three different butterbeer recipes - cold, hot, or fancy.
Ingredients
Frozen Butterbeer
- 500 ml vanilla ice cream (melted)
- 1/2 stick butter (melted)
- 60 grams of brown sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp grated nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp clove powder
- 950 ml apple cider
- 1 tsp vanilla
Hot Butterbeer
- 240 ml cream soda
- 120 ml butterscotch syrup
- 1/2 tbsp butter
- Whipped cream
Luxury Butterbeer
- 180 grams of dark brown sugar or light chocolate
- 2 tbsp water
- 6 tbsp butter
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 180 ml heavy cream, divided
- 180 ml rum
- 4 bottles of cream soda 350 ml
Cold Butterbeer for Kids
- 1/2 stick of butter
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp white sugar
- 500 ml vanilla + 1 tsp vanilla
- 950 ml apple cider
- 240 ml cream soda
- whipped cream
- caramel
Step
Method 1 of 4: Frozen Butterbeer

Step 1. Mix cream, butter, sugar and spices together

Step 2. Add and beat the vanilla ice cream into the mixture until everything is well combined

Step 3. Freeze the mixture again
Place in the freezer until the mixture hardens.

Step 4. Scoop out the frozen mixture into a glass

Step 5. Pour the hot apple cider over the ice cream mixture
Method 2 of 4: Hot Butterbeer

Step 1. Melt the butter in a saucepan

Step 2. Mix butterscotch into it

Step 3. Pour the mixture into a large bowl

Step 4. Add cream soda carefully

Step 5. Pour the butterbeer into serving glasses
Method 3 of 4: Fancy Butterbeer

Step 1. Boil sugar and water
Place the pan over medium heat. Add sugar and water and bring to a boil. Stir the mixture until it reaches a temperature of 115 degrees Celsius. Check the temperature of the mixture regularly with a candy thermometer.

Step 2. Add and stir in the butter, salt and 60 ml of cream

Step 3. Set the mixture aside to cool

Step 4. Add and stir in the rum once the mixture has cooled

Step 5. Beat the remaining cream and brown sugar
Place the ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat until the cream is light and foamy.

Step 6. Pour the caramel butter mixture evenly into four glasses

Step 7. Add cream soda to the glasses and stir

Step 8. Add whipped cream
Method 4 of 4: Cold Butterbeer for Kids

Step 1. Whisk butter with cinnamon, white sugar, and vanilla in a mixing bowl

Step 2. Combine the mixture with the vanilla, apple cider and cream soda in a blender

Step 3. Pour into serving glasses and garnish the top with whipped cream and caramel

Tips
- How to make hot butterbeer requires a large bowl, or else the butterbeer will spill all over the place. Even small amounts of hot butterbeer will produce foam that is 3 times its actual height.
- Optional: add 30 ml of rum to any recipe as a treat for adults.
