Step
Method 1 of 4: Basic dough without seasoning
Step 1. Sift flour into a large bowl
Add a pinch of salt. Make a hole in the center of the sifted flour.
Step 2. Put the egg yolks and oil into the holes in the flour
Use a large spoon or a mixer (aka mixer) to mix until smooth. Slowly add the milk while continuing to stir until smooth.
Step 3. Cover the dough
Leave for 30 minutes in the refrigerator to cool.
-
While the mixture is cooling, slice the onions (onion rings) about 1 cm thick.
Step 4. After 30 minutes, beat the egg whites until stiff
Put it in the dough.
Step 5. Dip onion rings in batter and fry until golden brown
This will take about 3-4 minutes.
Step 6. Remove the onion rings with tongs or a slotted spoon
Place on a paper towel to drain the oil, then serve immediately.
Method 2 of 4: Beer Dough
Step 1. Pour your favorite lager or beer into a large bowl
Step 2. Add flour little by little while beating
Beat until smooth and slippery.
-
Add flour if needed but only after beating, to see if it is enough or not.
Step 3. Add cayenne pepper, soy sauce and other seasonings according to taste
Mix well.
Step 4. Place in refrigerator to cool before frying
Refrigerate for thirty to sixty minutes.
Step 5. While the dough is cooling, prepare the onion rings
Slice the onions 1 cm thick and place in the refrigerator to cool.
Step 6. Cook the onion rings
Pour enough cooking oil to fry the onion rings in a frying pan or deep fryer.
-
Dip each onion ring into the seasoned flour until all are covered in flour. Then put in the dough.
-
Using tongs, put them in the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
Step 7. Remove with tongs or slotted spoon
Place it on a thick paper towel so that the excess oil is absorbed into the tissue.
Step 8. Serve straight for the best taste
Season again if needed.
-
Salsa, ketchup, mayonnaise, etc. delicious to dip.
Method 3 of 4: Spicy grill dough
If you want to reduce the fat content, try grilled onion rings. This dough is specifically for baking, not frying.
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200 C
Step 2. Slice the onion 1 cm thick
Place in the refrigerator while making the dough.
Step 3. Mix 1/2 cup flour with enough solution until runny and smooth
The resulting dough should stick thinly to the back of the spoon.
Step 4. Add in the breadcrumbs, cheese, red chili powder flakes and oregano
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5. Put 2 tablespoons of flour in a paper bag
Add the onion rings and beat until evenly coated with flour. (Don't overfill the bag, stir a little at a time, checking to see if you need more flour after beating.)
Step 6. Dip each onion ring one by one into the batter
Shake gently so that the dough does not stick to the onion too much.
Step 7. Arrange the battered onion rings in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
Continue to dip each onion ring and arrange until done.
Step 8. Put the baking sheet in the preheated oven
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Check every 10-12 minutes. Use tongs to flip each onion ring so that it is brown on both sides
Step 9. Remove from oven
Serve immediately with dipping sauce and other suitable foods.
Method 4 of 4: Crispy milk dough
It's not a traditional dough, but a layer that makes for a crunchy onion ring.
Step 1. Slice the onion into thin rings or rings
Step 2. Arrange the onion slices in a wide dish
Pour milk on top and leave for half an hour.
Step 3. Pour flour and seasonings on a plate
Mix well.
Step 4. Pour the oil into the pan or deep fryer
Heat the oil to 180 C.
Step 5. Dip each onion ring in flour and seasoning in a plate
Place in oil and fry until golden brown, for 3-4 minutes.
Step 6. Place on a paper towel to drain the oil
Step 7. Serve immediately
Tips
- See how to make vegan onion rings for vegetarian/egg-free dough on Wikihow.
- Use good onions like from Vidalia. Large diameter onions are best for making onion rings.
-
Use drier onions. The moisture in the onions can cause the dough to stick less to the onions. Some recommend slicing onions the day before and placing them in a sealed container. Leave in the refrigerator to dry for a day.
- Dip and cover the onion rings with cornstarch before dipping into the batter. The cornstarch will help absorb the moisture from the onion rings.
-
Make sure the dough is ice cold. Placing the dough in the freezer half an hour before frying can increase the dough's ability to stick well to the onions.
