If you like to make cakes, of course the term piping bag or plastic triangle is no longer foreign to your ears. In fact, although Indonesians often refer to it as a plastic triangle, it turns out that piping bags can also be made of paper, you know! Interested in making your own piping bag? What are you waiting for! Besides the process is very easy, the ingredients are likely already available in your home.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making a Piping Bag out of Plastic
Step 1. Prepare a plastic clip or similar plastic bag that can be closed
Instead, choose a plastic clip that is large enough.
Step 2. Add the frosting or icing as you would a normal triangular plastic
Step 3. Snip off the end of the plastic clip a little
Don't make the holes too big so the frosting doesn't fall apart when sprayed.
Step 4. Gently spray the frosting onto the surface of the cake or cookie
Without pressing the plastic clips too hard, the frosting should come out easily.
Method 2 of 2: Making a Piping Bag out of Paper
Step 1. Find a parchment paper that is large enough
Fold the paper to form an isosceles triangle (folding the paper will make your piping bag more sturdy). Cut out excess paper to make it neater.
Step 2. Grasp the center of the triangular base with the thumb and forefinger of your left hand
After that, use your right hand to bring one of the corners together with the top of the triangle. Maintain that position.
Step 3. With your left hand, roll the other side of the triangle to form a perfect cone
Step 4. Trim the cone you have made
Make sure the tip of the cone is tightly closed and is pointed. Fold inward the end of the paper sticking out of the mouth of the cone.
Step 5. Trim the mouth of the cone again to make sure there are no exposed parts
After that, slightly cut the tip of the cone with scissors.
In order for the piping bag to work more effectively and accurately, attach a decorating tip with the desired shape at the end of the piping bag. Undoubtedly, the resulting decoration will be more presentable and attractive
Step 6. Fill the piping bag with icing, cream, or whatever filling you want
Voila, your piping bag is ready to go!
Tips
- Place the piping bag in a tall glass so you don't have to hold it while filling it with cream.
- To ensure that all piping bag joints are tightly closed, you can clamp them with paper clips.
- To prevent air bubbles from forming, attach an extra layer of paper.
- For more accurate and detailed decoration shapes, make sure your piping bag rolls are sturdy and tightly closed; Also make sure the size of the hole at the end of the piping bag is not too big. After all, if needed, you can always enlarge the hole.
- Take a clean pin, toothpick, or safety pin to remove the dried icing from the end of the piping bag.
- The bigger the triangle you make, the bigger your piping bag will be; vice versa.
- In addition to piping bags, you can also decorate cakes using a frosting gun (a tool for "shooting" frosting); besides being more robust, the results will be neater.
