If you have excess apples and are confused about how to finish them, try making apple juice. Cut the ripe apples and cook them in water on the stove until they soften. Then press on the sieve to extract the juice. To make smaller portions, mix a raw apple with a little water, then press the pulp to get fresh apple cider.
Ingredients
Cooking Stove Apple Juice
- 18 apples
- Water for soaking
- Sugar or honey as sweetener, optional
“ For a serving of 8 cups (1,900 ml) of juice”
Mixed Apple Juice
- 4 apples
- cup (60 ml) cold water
- Sugar or honey as sweetener, optional
“ For 1 1/2 cups (350 ml) of juice ”
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Apple Juice on the Stove
Step 1. Wash 18 apples
Given that you will be leaving the skin on the apples, choose organic apples or apples that are not exposed to pesticides. Choose your favorite type of apple or mix it with other types of apples:
- Gala
- Rome
- Fuji
- Honeycrisp
- Pink Lady
Step 2. Cut the apple into several pieces
Use a knife and cutting board to cut each apple into 8 pieces. If you like, cut the apples with an apple cutter while removing the core at the same time.
You don't need to remove the core, seeds, or skin of the apple as they will all be strained at once
Step 3. Put the apples in a saucepan and soak them in 5 cm of water
Place the apple slices along with the core in a large saucepan and place on the stove. Pour enough water to a height (5 cm).
If you pour too much water, the juice will be too runny
Step 4. Cover and cook the apples over low heat for 20-25 minutes
Turn the heat to medium-high so the water starts to boil. Reduce the heat to medium and place the lid on the pot. Let the apples boil until completely soft.
Remove the lid from the pot and stir the apples occasionally to ensure they are thoroughly cooked
Step 5. Place the filter screen tightly over a large bowl or glass
If you want to filter apple cider, spread a coffee filter or cheesecloth inside the filter. Make sure the bowl is large enough to hold all of the apple cider.
Step 6. Strain the apple cider from the pulp
Turn off the stove and spoon the apple cider mixture into the strainer. Use a spoon to press down on the cooked apples so that more of the juice falls into the bowl.
Step 7. Cool and taste the cider
Leave the apple cider in the bowl to cool to room temperature and taste. If you want a sweeter juice, stir a little sugar or honey into a bowl. If the taste of the juice is too strong, you can mix it with a little water to taste.
Step 8. Store apple cider in the refrigerator for up to 1 week
Pour the apple cider into an airtight container, and store in the refrigerator. If you want to keep it longer, freeze the apple juice so it can be stored for up to 6 months.
You can also canned apple juice so it can be stored for 6-9 months in your cupboard
Method 2 of 2: Making Mixed Raw Apple Juice
Step 1. Wash and cut the apple into 4 pieces
Place the clean apples on a cutting board and remove the core and seeds. You can leave the apple skin on. Then cut each apple into 4 equal pieces.
Use your favorite apples or try mixing Gala, Fuji, Ambrosia, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady apples
Step 2. Place the apples and cup (60 ml) of cold water in a blender
If you don't have a high-speed blender, put the apples and water in a food processor. Put the lid on the blender or food processor.
Step 3. Run the blender on low speed before increasing it to high speed
Allow the blades of the blender to chop the apples before slowly switching to high speed.
Step 4. Mix the apples for 45 seconds on high speed
If your blender has a handle, use it to push the apples down toward the blades at the base of the blender. If not, turn off the blender 1-2 times and use a long spoon to push the apples down.
The apples should be completely pureed
Step 5. Strain the apple juice through a tighter sieve
Place a fine mesh strainer over the bowl and spoon the apple pulp into it, then press down. Let the apple cider run through the filter for about 10 minutes.
- You may need to stir the apple pulp slightly to remove the apple cider.
- If you prefer to strain the juice, cover the filter with cheesecloth before straining the apple juice. Then, you can lift and squeeze the cotton cloth to remove all the cider.
Step 6. Serve the apple juice as soon as possible
Pour the juice into a glass and taste. If you feel the juice is still not sweet enough, add a little honey or sugar to the apple juice and stir. Enjoy the juice right away or cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.
