The original ninja techniques were taught in secret. When a ninja discovered a new technique, he would write it down on a makimono, aka scrolls of paper for the next generation of ninja. There are several ninja paths that are well known in western culture.

Method 1 of 4: Dress Like a Ninja
Step 1. Understand the ninja style
Contemporary ninja appearances are based on ninjas in classic films. The ninja's formal attire has a dark blue color with a face covering. Originally, the ninja acted more like a chameleon than a fighter.
There are many articles that explain that ninja clothes (shinobi shozoku) must be the right size so as not to make noise. Clothing should fit snugly, but still be a little loose
Step 2. Dress for camouflage
You will need clothes that blend in with your surroundings. The idea of camouflage is to blur shapes so you're not easily recognizable. Matching clothes with people around becomes very important for modern ninja. This sometimes means learning about the people around you and being able to adapt easily.
- A ninja must not be easily recognizable.
- Your evening outfit should be dark blue and comfortable. Consider wearing a keikogi, which consists of a top of a martial arts outfit, and a hakama, or slack-fitting formal pants. The bottom of the hakama must be tucked into tabi (ninja boots) and tied with a rope for each leg.
Step 3. Wear everyday clothes
You don't have to spend a fortune at a specialty clothing store to get an authentic look. Traditional clothing does not determine the quality of a ninja. Football sweater pants can replace the hakama. Pair it with a dark blue t-shirt or bottle neck, dark ski mask, and you're already dressed like a ninja.
Method 2 of 4: Understanding Stealth Techniques
Step 1. Practice Nuki Ashi
This is one of Aruki's shinobi techniques. This technique is very useful for moving on rickety floors and such. Start in a squatting position and balance your body by straightening your arms. Place most of your body weight on the forelegs. Move the back leg and swing it so that it almost touches the other ankle.
Straighten the moving leg forward and use it to feel for any rickety floors. Then, starting at the outer edge of the foot, transfer your weight to that leg
Step 2. Use Yoko Aruki or sideways steps
Yoko Aruki starts by sticking his back against the wall. Move the back leg towards the goal. Bend both knees deeply as you do this. Once you're in this position, move the other leg sideways in front of the other leg and toward the goal. All these movements should be done smoothly.
Step 3. Practice Ko Ashi or tiger feet
This technique is great for walking through bush or high water. First, lift the front leg straight out of the bush. Slide your foot over the point you want to trace. Bend the front legs straight down and step into the bushes. Once your feet reach the floor, return to your normal position.
Step 4. Try curling up
This is probably the best way to move. Crouching allows your body to be out of sight as you move.
Step 5. Practice crawling
This technique is great for hiding yourself and crossing smooth grass and clean surfaces. On the other hand, this technique is less than ideal for crossing noisy surfaces, such as hard grass, leaves, or rocky surfaces.
Step 6. Use other stealth tips
When about to turn, listen for footsteps or conversation or behind your wall. If you're skilled enough, you can tell which direction the person is facing by hearing the sound they make. Be sure to press your weight against the wall and crouch as low as you can until you can peer around the corner.
- The lower you are, the lower the chances of getting caught.
- When climbing stairs that turn out to be rickety, walk on the edge near the wall.
Method 3 of 4: Learn to Fight
Step 1. Learn Yuyitsu
Yuyitsu is a great martial arts foundation because his fighting style relies on balance. Most Yuyitsu take advantage of the opponent's strength to attack. If you learn Yuyitsu, you will start with basic slamming and wrestling. One of the first skills to learn is to relax during practice. This allows you to train longer without getting tired and is also a great preparation to become a ninja.

Step 2. Find the ninjutsu organization
In big cities sometimes there are schools of ninjutsu that enthusiasts can enter. This is the best way to learn the original techniques of the ninja fighting style. The core idea of ninjutsu is stealth.

Step 3. Learn from the trainer
While it is preferable to find a trainer who knows traditional Japanese fighting styles, trainers from other martial arts are also fine. You can always adapt your martial arts to be more stealthy like a ninja.

Method 4 of 4: Using Ninja Accessories
Step 1. Use a throwing spear
Hold the Bo-Shuriken in your hand and adjust the tip so that it points in the same direction as your fingers. Hold it with your index and middle fingers so it doesn't move. Insert your thumb into it so that the lower half of the Bo-Shuriken doesn't move. Point the arm that is not holding the Bo-Shuriken pointing at the target. Then, position your feet next to those arms in front of the target. Raise the hand holding the Bo-Shuriken until it is next to your head.
- Bring the arm holding the Bo-Shuriken straight down, and accelerate as it descends. Make sure the grip is firm enough so that the Bo-Shuriken doesn't slip out of your hand.
- Try not to throw too hard so that the accuracy is good.
Step 2. Throw ninja stars
Hold the shuriken in your hand by grasping the outside of the tip. Reach up to where the back pocket would normally be, and pull up your arm and allow your wrist to flick forward. This movement requires practice. First of all, you should focus on accuracy instead of power, distance, or cool style.
Step 3. Hold the sword
You five basic postures in gripping the sword in ninja style.
- Jodan no Kamae. The sword is held overhead at a 45 degree angle.
- Seigan no Kamae. This technique places the hilt of the sword at waist height with the tip pointed at the opponent's eye.
- Chudan no Kamae. This technique is performed with the sword held in the middle, above waist height with the tip pointed at the opponent's stomach.
- Hasso no kamae. Position the sword to the side like holding a baseball bat.
- Gedan no kamae. The hilt of the sword will be at waist height so that the tip is pointing towards the opponent's leg.
Step 4. Use a smoke bomb
The smoke bomb is a classic escape technique. You can make your own smoke bomb or buy one at the store. Ask a martial arts expert in your area to find this type of smoke bomb.
Tips
- To learn Taijutsu, join the Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu dojo; however, you can also join the Genbuka, Jinenkan, or Toshin-do dojo as they are also based on Takamatsu and Ryu-ha. If you don't have one, try to find a dojo that teaches Koryu Bujutsu (though these styles don't teach taijutsu, this is your closest option if none of the dojos listed above don't exist in your town).
- Many Taijutsu practitioners wear black belts in other martial arts such as Taekwondo, Karate, Wushu, Yuyitsu, etc. It will be useful if you have martial arts experience, but not absolute.
