Steaks are considered the most delicious when they are grilled. However, you can also achieve the taste of grilled meat in an iron cast skillet and oven. Find out how to cook steak in the oven with the recipe below.
Step
Part 1 of 5: Preparing the Meat
Step 1. Purchase steaks at the supermarket or butcher shop
Choose cuts of meat that are about 2.5 to 3.8 cm thick.
Step 2. Thaw the steak in the refrigerator overnight if the meat is frozen
Allow the meat for 8 to 12 hours to thaw thoroughly.
Step 3. Remove the steak from the refrigerator about 20 minutes before cooking
Let the meat warm up for a moment to ensure that it cooks evenly.
Part 2 of 5: Seasoning the Steak
Step 1. Prepare 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of vegetable oil
Pour oil on both sides of the steak.
Step 2. Sprinkle a little bit of grit on one side of the meat
Step 3. Add 2 to 6 times finely ground black pepper
You can also use packaged steak seasonings instead of salt and pepper.
Step 4. Rub the spices on the meat
Turn the meat over, then repeat the process of rinsing the spices.
Part 3 of 5: Heating the Oven
Step 1. Place the cast-iron skillet in the oven
This type of skillet disperses heat very evenly.
Step 2. Set the heat and wait for the oven to heat up
The cast-iron skillet should heat up at the same time as the oven. Wait for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Part 4 of 5: Grilling Steaks
Step 1. Put the oven mitts on both hands, then remove the cast iron skillet from the oven
Cast-iron skillets are heavy, so pull up the oven rack and carefully lift the skillet over the stove.
Step 2. Turn on the stove over high heat
Step 3. Put the meat in a cast-iron skillet
Cook each side of the meat for 30 seconds to brown.
Step 4. Turn the meat over to its original position
Turn off the stove.
Step 5. Put the pan back in the oven
Step 6. Cook the meat for 2 minutes with the first side up
Step 7. Turn the meat over with tongs
Cook the meat for another 2 minutes with the other side facing up. Remove the meat from the oven.
This recipe applies to cooking quarter-cooked meat (medium rare) weighing 453 grams. If you want the meat to be undercooked (medium), then let the meat cook for 2 minutes longer in the oven
Part 5 of 5: Serving the Steak
Step 1. Place the meat on a warm plate
Cover the plate with foil and let the meat sit for 5 minutes.
Step 2. Cut the meat against the grain of the meat
Serve immediately.
