Black rice is a medium grain rice that is easy to prepare and easy to use in other recipes. Once cooked, this rice turns dark purple in color and has a unique taste with a soft texture. Unlike other rice, black rice does not cook well in a rice cooker. This article will guide you through preparing black rice and will give you some tips on what to do when the rice is cooked.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Rinsing Black Rice
Step 1. Add two cups of water for every one cup of rice
Remember that the volume of rice will increase in depth after it becomes rice.
Step 2. Rinse the rice two or three times
Put the rice in a bowl and wash it under cold water. Rub the rice with your hands. Leave it for a while then strain the rice. Repeat this process two or three times. This will remove the starch on the surface and prevent the rice from clumping.
Step 3. Water the rice again
Let the rice soak in water overnight. This is to prevent the rice from clumping.
If you don't have time, cook the rice immediately after washing it two or three times
Method 2 of 3: Boiling Black Rice
Step 1. Pour the water in the cup into a large saucepan
Add rice to water. Do not turn on the stove until the water and rice enter the pot.
You can also cook black rice with broth (chicken, beef, vegetables etc.) instead of water. The broth will give it a salty taste. Most recipes use 1 cup of stock for every 1/2 cup of black rice
Step 2. Bring the water to a boil
Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20 to 35 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed.
Step 3. Turn off the stove and let the pot sit for 15 minutes
Don't stir.
Step 4. Stir the rice with a fork to separate the grains and serve
Note that although the color of cooked black rice looks normal, it can stain the coating on your ceramic cookware
Method 3 of 3: Cooking With Black Rice
Step 1. Mix black rice in a cold salad
Black rice is a healthy substitute for noodles and white rice. If you want to make a cold pasta salad for a BBQ, party or sporting event, why not use black rice instead of pasta?
If you're making a cold Asian salad with noodles, why not use black rice which is more nutritious? Make sure that the rice is fully cooked before adding any other ingredients
Step 2. Make black rice as filling
Using black rice to make stuffing is easy and delicious. Cook the rice until done and then combine it with the breadcrumbs, herbs and spices, and celery as you would a regular filling. Put the stuffing in the turkey or chicken and bake as usual. The guests of the event will definitely eat well.
Step 3. Make black rice as an additional food
Cook the rice according to the above method then stack some of the rice on a plate and serve with a meat, fish or poultry dish. Add different herbs and spices to give it an interesting taste. Experiment and come up with some interesting combinations.
Step 4. Turn black rice into dessert
To make rice pudding, use black rice! Combine rice with cream, sugar and cinnamon for a delicious after-dinner meal. Also add different fruits.
