Step
Method 1 of 3: Making Eggs in a Basket the Traditional Way
Step 1. Make a hole in the bread
In the center of the loaf, make a hole about 5 cm in diameter. Another way to prepare bread is to make square cuts inside the bread using a knife.
- Choose the bread you like. White bread, whole wheat bread, sourdough bread, baguettes, rye bread, or whatever bread you like to make the dish taste better.
- You can make holes in the bread using a glass, jar, or round lid. Press the hole into the bread to make the hole easier.
- If you are making this dish for children, you can use cookie cutters of various shapes that children like to make holes in the bread. You can also dip the leftover slices of bread in the egg yolks.
- To make a romantic breakfast, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make holes. If you don't have a heart-shaped cutter, you can use a knife.
Step 2. Fry the bread
Add butter to frying pan. While waiting for the butter to melt, spread the butter on both sides of the bread then place the bread in the frying pan. Fry the bread over medium heat until browned. Flip the bread and leave it until golden brown.
- You can butter the leftover slices of bread and fry them with an egg for extra. Many people dip this bread in egg yolk before frying.
- You can also replace butter with vegetable oil, coconut oil or grapeseed oil.
Step 3. Add the eggs
Before putting the eggs in the holes, add some butter to the loaves of bread. Crack the egg and put the egg in the hole.
- If you like less egg whites, you can separate the egg whites from the yolks. Put the yolk in the hole then add a little egg white. This will make the eggs easier to cook.
- Add the ham or bacon to the eggs and then place a slice of cheese on top of the bread. You can also season the eggs by adding salt, pepper or paprika for a little variety.
Step 4. Fry the eggs
Cook the eggs for a minute or two longer. Carefully turn the bread over so that both sides are perfectly cooked and make sure the egg whites are fully cooked.
- Before you flip the bread and eggs, lift the ends of the sides of the bread with a spatula. Make sure the eggs are hard and browned before you flip them. The eggs will begin to blend into the bread when they are cooked.
- Don't overcook if you like undercooked eggs. However, if you like perfectly cooked eggs, cook them a little longer.
- Spray the pan with nonstick spray or add butter before turning the bread to prevent sticking.
- You can also add salt, pepper, paprika powder, or other seasonings while you cook the top side of the bread.
Step 5. Serve
Put your dish on a plate. You can eat it with a fork or just like regular bread.
Method 2 of 3: Eggs in Baking Basket
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius
Spray nonstick spray onto ramekins or muffin tins, or lay out parchment paper.
Step 2. Place the bread into the ramekin container
Spread butter on both sides of the bread and place in a ramekin container or muffin tin. Gently press the bread into the ramekin until the ends of the bread stick together.
- This recipe is healthier and lower in calories because it is made by baking, not frying. To minimize the number of calories, choose bread that contains fewer calories and carbohydrates.
- To further minimize the number of calories, avoid buttering the bread. Place the bread in a ramekin bowl without butter.
- Another variation of this dish is to punch holes in a slice of French bread instead of putting it in a ramekin container. Baking eggs on French bread is not a healthier, low-carb, low-calorie option.
Step 3. Bake the eggs
Crack the eggs into a ramekin container or muffin tin. Place in the oven and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked through. If you like perfectly cooked egg yolks, bake a little longer
Step 4. Remove the eggs in the basket
Let the ramekins or muffin tins cool, then remove the bread bowl and place on a plate. Use a knife if the bread sticks to the container.
Sprinkle with salt, pepper, paprika powder, or garlic powder. You can also add other toppings such as grated cheese, ham or bacon, tomatoes, and avocado
Method 3 of 3: Making an Egg Dish in a Low-Carb Basket
Step 1. Saute the vegetables
Cut the Brussels sprouts in half or cut them into small pieces. Grate or slice the sweet potato into small pieces. Saute in coconut oil for three to five minutes
- Add seasonings according to taste. Add salt, pepper, paprika powder, curry powder, chili powder, or any seasoning to taste
- You will use vegetables in place of bread for a low-carb meal. Choose two types of vegetables that contain different nutrients. Use Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, or another of your favorite vegetables.
Step 2. Cook the eggs
Reduce the heat and make holes in the vegetables to put the eggs. Crack the eggs into the holes, then cover the frying pan and let it sit for a while. The eggs will cook in five minutes. Check your cooking periodically until the eggs are cooked to your liking.
Step 3. Serve
Use a spatula to remove the eggs and vegetables from the pan, then place them on a plate. Sprinkle seasoning to taste.
You can also sprinkle a little cheese or bacon over the vegetables while cooking, or you can add a sprinkle of cheese and bacon over the eggs. Make sure the bacon you use is high-quality and nitrate-free, and choose natural cheeses
Tips
- Keep butter nearby if you need it while cooking.
- Toast any unused bread left on the side of the frying pan as you cook. Leftover bread can be dipped in egg yolk.
- You can add toppings to this dish to add flavor. Suitable toppings include grated cheese, hot sauce, garlic sauce, sliced tomatoes, fruit, herbs, ham, and bacon.
- For a slightly healthier and quicker dish, you can toast the bread and then fry the eggs right away.
- When you put the eggs in the holes, you have to wait a while for the eggs to stick to the bread. If you flip the bread too quickly, the eggs will spill and spill out of the hole and your dish will fall apart
- You can make holes of various shapes using a knife or cookie cutter
