If you're looking for a creative activity that is rewarding while having fun, making an origami wallet could be an option. Besides being easy to make and customizable, you only need a sheet of paper. There are various ways to make an origami wallet and once you're done, you can decorate it however you want.

Method 1 of 2: Creating a Simple Wallet
Step 1. Choose the paper to be used
Origami is the art of folding any paper. You can use any type of paper to make a large, durable wallet. Use the right paper to make the wallet you want. Whatever your choice, we recommend using paper that is slightly stiff and thick.
- Origami paper is paper designed to make origami works. Besides being easy to fold, origami paper is available in various colors. However, they are more expensive than regular paper and you can only make a wallet to store coins and small notes.
- Manila cardboard. If you want to make a larger, more durable wallet, use the manila cardboard that is usually sold in bookstores or grocery stores. Prepare a square of paper, but you are free to determine the size.
Step 2. Fold the paper along a vertical line so that it becomes 2 equal parts
Place the paper with the side that will be the outside of the wallet down. After making a crease in the middle, unfold the paper and place it with the inside facing up. The fold line you made earlier is only to mark the center of the paper that will be used in the next step.
Step 3. Fold the left and right sides of the paper to the center
The paper will be divided into 4 sections after you fold the two sides of the paper so that they meet at the crease line in the center of the paper. After that, unfold all the folds and place them with the inside facing up. Currently, there are three fold lines and the paper is divided into 4 equal parts.
Step 4. Fold all the corners of the paper up
Make a crease by joining the corners of the paper and the crease line you made in step 3. Make sure you fold all four corners.
Step 5. Fold the left and right sides to the crease line in the center of the paper
Make sure you make a symmetrical fold so that it forms 2 flaps with the corners folded down. When finished folding, turn the paper over.
Step 6. Fold the top side of the paper
Make a crease about 1/3 of the top of the paper. As a guide, fold the paper so that all the triangles that form on the bottom fold up.
For better creases, use a ruler or other object to press down on the paper for a neater and firmer finish
Step 7. Fold the bottom of the paper up and tuck it into the flap
This is the final step of making a simple origami wallet. Fold the bottom of the paper up so that all the folds don't open again.
- Fold the bottom of the paper so that it partially covers the first flap and press the crease line firmly.
- Tuck the triangle on the bottom flap into the triangle on the top flap so you see a diamond shape on the bottom of the paper with small triangles in each corner of the paper.
Step 8. Fold the paper in the middle into 2 equal parts
Use the first fold to fold the paper into 2 equal parts to finish making the wallet. You can use a wallet to store cards, coins, or other items that fit the size of your wallet.
Decorate the outside of your wallet with pictures or stickers to make it look more personal or to remind you what's inside
Method 2 of 2: Creating a Traditional Wallet
Step 1. Choose the paper to be used
Just like the steps above, prepare a square of paper so that it can be folded neatly. If you are using plain paper or manila cardboard, cut it into a square.
Step 2. Fold the paper along a vertical line so that it becomes 2 equal parts
Place the paper on the table with the outside side down. Fold the paper in the middle and then open it again.
Step 3. Fold the left and right sides of the paper to the center
The paper will be divided into 4 sections after you fold the two sides of the paper so that they meet at the crease line in the center of the paper. After that, unfold all the folds and place them with the inside facing up. Currently, there are three fold lines and the paper is divided into 4 equal parts.
Step 4. Fold the paper along a horizontal line so that it becomes 2 equal parts
Once folded, you will see a rectangular paper.
Step 5. Make overlapping folds in the top corner
This step is a bit challenging because you have to make a trapezoid so that the inside of the paper folds outward.
- Fold the top corner of the paper together by joining the corner of the paper and the crease line you made in step 2 and then unfold this fold again.
- Fold the same corner back and then open this fold again.
- Make a stacked crease using the two corner crease lines you just created. Press the crease of the corner so that the inside of the paper is visible and then make a flap by pressing the crease in the middle to the top of the paper. At the bottom will form a small triangular fold and the inside of the paper will be visible.
Step 6. Fold the flaps back
Use the fold line that divides the paper into 4 sections to fold the flaps back so that the paper forms a square. The top half of the paper will be covered by the outside of the paper and the lower half will show the inside of the paper.
Step 7. Make a small crease on the outer side of the wallet
As a final step, you will need to make a small fold to secure the top of the wallet. The result is a thick crease so that the wallet doesn't open when it's filled.
- Fold the bottom corner up to meet the other two corners.
- Fold the thick paper under the square again to make the crease smaller.
- Fold it again to cover the outside of the wallet.
- Turn the wallet over and repeat the above steps for the other side.
Step 8. Rotate the wallet
Now you have a traditional origami wallet with thick flaps on each side to keep it tightly closed.
