If you like something unconventional, like making things you can actually buy yourself, love art and crafts, use duct tape and make something functional. Although the duct tape in the article used in this article is gray, you can use a different color! You can also use a zigzag pattern or whatever you want. This wallet is yours, so make it to your heart's content!
Step
Method 1 of 3: Wallet Body
Step 1. Cut 22 cm of duct tape and place it on a flat non-stick surface with the sticky side facing up
You can use a plastic board or cutting board.
Step 2. Cut the second piece to the same length and place the sticky part face down, covering the first half of the duct tape strip parallel to the long side
The other half of the sticky part is attached to a flat surface.
Step 3. Fold the sticky side of the first piece over the second
Step 4. Flip the two pieces over and place the third piece with the sticky side covering the sticky side of the second piece
Again, half of the sticky side of the third piece sticks to a flat surface.
Step 5. Continue to flip and lengthen the width of your duct tape until it reaches at least 18 cm from top to bottom excluding the sticky part
Step 6. Fold the last sticky side and trim the edges until the duct tape is now an 18 x 20 cm rectangle
This size will be a wallet with a width of approximately 9 cm from top to bottom.
For a shorter wallet that fits perfectly into a US dollar bill, make your rectangle no smaller than 15 x 20 cm
Step 7. Fold the rectangle in half along the long side and glue the two sides together to make a large pocket
Your crease should be in line with the duct tape. This pocket is where you put your money.
For a different effect, fold the rectangle so that there is a small gap between the top sides. A shorter inner side will give the wallet a tidier look
Step 8. Fold your wallet in half
Press with your fingers so that the edges of the fold are clearer and neater.
Method 2 of 3: Inner Pocket (Optional)
Step 1. Make a 9 x 9.5 cm rectangular sheet
Use the flip and fold method (as you did for the body of the purse) to make the rectangle slightly larger, then cut it out to the planned size. This will be the inner pocket with the opening facing the fold of the wallet.
- Side pockets are very good for storing cards that you rarely use and so on.
- Note that the side pockets are the same height (but slightly narrower) than half the body of the wallet. This is to ensure that the wallet can still be folded after the side pockets are installed.
- If you modify the wallet size, you should also do the same for the side pockets. For example, if your wallet is 7.5 cm high by 20 cm wide, then the side pocket is 7.5 x 9.5 cm.
Step 2. Repeat Step 1 to create the second side pocket
This second pocket is on the other side of the wallet, so the opening of the first side pocket will be opposite the opening of the first side pocket.
Step 3. Tape the side pockets in place
With the body of the wallet unfolded, place the side pockets on each side with the outer and bottom sides aligned. Fold the duct tape over the bottom and the outer two sides, with the interior edges exposed. To attach the top, place a 9.5cm piece of duct tape on the top side of the fold, then fold it over the inside of the purse body fold, making sure you don't place the duct tape. on the wallet opening.
Method 3 of 3: Inner Card Pocket (Matches Side Pockets)
Step 1. Make another sheet of duct tape measuring 4 x 9.5cm
Use the flip-and-fold method as you did the body of the purse) to make a slightly larger rectangle, then cut it to your planned size. This section will be a pocket for storing cards.
- Note that the card pocket is slightly narrower than half of the wallet body. This ensures that the wallet can still be folded in half after the pouch is attached.
- The credit card is only about 5 cm high. Make your card pocket a little shorter than the card so you can see and pull out the card easily.
- If you want your ID to be visible, make a rectangular sheet of duct tape measuring 9.5 cm wide and the same height as the card, then cut out the center of the card so that the information on the card is visible but the card is still in place in the wallet. Maybe you want to stick a piece of plastic (such as clear plastic wrap) behind the frame to make it look neater.
Step 2. Create additional card pockets if needed
Do not make more than three card pockets on each side or the wallet will become too bulky.
Step 3. Tape the bottom of the first pocket to the bottom of the inner side of the wallet
Align with the bottom edge of the left or right side and tape the edges to secure their position on the inside of the wallet. Turn the pocket over and repeat the inner edges until the card can't push under the first piece of duct tape. Don't tape the sides just yet.
The same applies when you make ID card display pouches
Step 4. Glue the bottom of the additional pockets on the inside of the wallet, placing each bag slightly higher than the previous one
This will make all your cards visible. Remember to make the fold of the card shorter than the card, and don't place the pocket so high that the card pops out of the wallet.
Step 5. Glue the side edges of all the pockets
For a cleaner look, you can place strips of duct tape from the crease in the purse, out the pocket, around the corners, and finally back around the pocket on the other side, so that no pieces are visible on the front of the wallet.
Step 6. Put money, ID cards and other cards in your wallet
Or you can give the wallet as a gift or sell.
Step 7. And your wallet is now done
When you use this wallet for the first time, you can see that the wallet is open (not closed or folded); smooth it out by placing the wallet under a few books for a few hours to keep the wallet from continuing to open
Tips
- Have banknotes and credit cards ready when making the wallet so that the wallet size is appropriate.
- There are many patterned duct tapes and various colors. Combine many styles to suit your taste and style.
- Make sure the edges are even.
- Exacto knives can also work well.
- If you make a wallet body with aluminum foil inside, this will protect the credit card's radio-frequency identification (RFID) from being cloned or 'imitation'.
- If you want to cut the duct tape with scissors, it will be easier to use non-stick scissors.
- You can make the folds of the money holder higher to make it easier to open.
- To create a center fold that protects your money: take wallet-wide duct tape, stick a quarter of it on the back, fold it so it doesn't stick, then fold it down the inside of your wallet, now your money won't fall.
- Don't use good scissors to cut the duct tape; the duct tape will stick to the scissors, reducing the cutting effectiveness of the scissors.
- If you see bubbles, use a needle, prick them and gently deflate them.
-
Some cutting tips:
- When cutting duct tape with scissors, it's easier to make small cuts than large cuts.
- Putting butter on the scissors will help cut the duct tape more easily.
- When using a knife, an iron blade or an iron edge is best.
-
There are many ways to customize the design. You can:
- Add a coin pocket in a large money bag or add a fold in the credit card holder so that business cards don't fall out when the wallet is dropped.
- Experiment with different colors. Duct tape is available in several colors; try using a variety of different colors for the deep crease. Alternatively, there is Black Tyvek duct tape in 5 and 10 cm width which has a nice and simple look.
- Use transparent duct tape. To make the structure stronger and to add color, place photos or colored paper between the layers of duct tape.
- Use paper, cloth, net or blue duct tape.
- Stick your favorite sticker on the wallet.
- Add letters from duct tape with your initials for a fun, personal touch.
- Gently apply the duct tape and smooth it out so it doesn't form waves and pockets. If you find air bubbles, deflate them with a needle.
- You can also add paper inside to prevent the wallet from sticking.
- Create a card frame and duct tape around it to give the wallet additional structure.
- The duct tape will be difficult to separate if the sticky side is glued to the other sticky side.
- You can also buy sheet duct tape in addition to roll or roll duct tape.
- Creating pockets allows you to form new sections and expand the space in the wallet.
- Try using a different color for each row to give it a different touch.
- Apart from cutting, gluing and flipping it, you can cut everything first, then assemble! Saving time.
- Do not allow any wrinkles to produce better quality.
- If you do it well, you can make money selling wallets. The profit-generating price (amount added after material costs) is IDR 36,000, - per wallet. Selling at school events is a good idea.
- You can also make tape from duct tape.
- I used cardboard measuring 2.5 x 30 x 30 cm and covered it with duct tape so it was easier to lift. [email protected]
Warning
- Carefully cut the duct tape. Always point the scissors away from yourself. Wipe the glue off the cutting tool before cutting again to keep your scissors clean.
- Keep the wallet away from heat or sunlight. If it is too hot, the wallet will stick and the glue can contaminate the items stored in the wallet.
- Measure carefully. If it's too small, it might not fit in money or cards and you'll have to start over. To be safe, make the size a little bigger than it should be.
- The duct tape really sticks to your fingers, so be careful if you have super sensitive skin.
