No one likes to look at his garden or admire his lawn and see weeds. Grass makes the garden look overgrown and untidy, and people spend a lot of time removing it and trying to make sure it doesn't grow back. There are various ways to get rid of this annoyance. Get rid of the grass by performing preventive maintenance and using chemical weed killers or natural antidotes that you can find around the house.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Lawn Prevention And Maintenance
Step 1. Determine the ideal height of the grass
All lawns have the ideal height of grass that promotes healthy growth. Depending on the climate and geography of the area, the ideal grass height is between 0.6-7.6 cm.
- Talk to a landscaper or professional staff at a home and garden supply store to gain knowledge about the type of grass you have and how tall it should grow.
- Keep the grass a little taller, if in doubt. This will provide shade on the lawn, preventing the sun's rays from entering.
Step 2. Mow the grass regularly as needed to maintain the grass's height
This will remove the grass heads before they grow or multiply in the yard.
Use a lawn trimmer to trim the grass growing on the edges of the lawn each time you trim it
Step 3. Spread rocks or mulch around the plant area to prevent grass from growing
This coating will cool the surface of the soil and block the sun's rays, preventing the growth of new grass.
Method 2 of 3: Chemical Herbicides
Step 1. Identify and look for herbicides for the grass in your yard
Choose a large leaf herbicide that is suitable for the grass. If the grass to be removed is not on the label, do not buy the product.
- Heed warnings for children and pets.
- READ and FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS on the packaging.
Step 2. Apply the herbicide with any applicator
Products often come with a spray bottle so you can apply it directly to the grass.
Make sure the weather is not windy as you could kill the plants you want or will eat
Step 3. Treat all grassy areas of the lawn and remove any isolated weeds growing around the lawn
Step 4. Put a sprayer on the garden hose if you have a lawn that has gotten out of control or hasn't been looked after for a long time
This will allow you to apply a large amount of chemical weed killer all over the yard.
Remove toys, furniture, pets, or clothing before spraying. Chemical substances can be harmful to humans and animals
Method 3 of 3: Organic Weed Killer
Step 1. Make a barrier between the soil and the garden
This can be done with old newspaper or shower curtains.
Spread newspaper or curtains on the ground and cover them with mulch, gravel, or soil and plant flowers. The grass won't be able to get rid of plant roots or move across barriers
Step 2. Spread corn gluten meal on plants or yard
Corn fodder prevents grass seed propagation but will not interfere with growing crops. Best used in early spring.
Step 3. Pour boiling water on the grass or any grassy areas you see on the grass
This is especially useful on grass you see in a driveway or walking path, as the water will flow easily without disturbing the plants or grass.
Step 4. Spray a combination of vinegar and water on the grassy area
Do not do this too close to plants or flowers, or cover them before spraying. Vinegar will hinder plant growth as well as grass.
Step 5. Mix 28.3 grams of vodka with 473 ml of water and add a drop of liquid dish soap
Spray the mixture on the grass and watch as the grass dries.
Tips
- Pull out the grass stalks when you see them. This grass can be a nuisance, but it's easier to remove it if you see grass everywhere than spraying the entire yard with a chemical or homemade weed killer.
- The best time to root grass is after it rains.
