Vaseline, a brand of petrolatum oil, provides superior moisture and care for dry and brittle eyelashes. Vaseline petrolatum oil (Vaseline petroleum jelly) helps eyelashes grow longer, thicker and stronger. This product also states that its moisturizing properties can keep the skin around the eyelids soft and supple. The best way to get the most out of this product is to use a clean mascara brush to apply Vaseline to your lashes before going to bed.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Cleaning the Mascara Brush
Step 1. Remove all the mascara from the brush
Take a piece of paper towel. Soft wipes tend to be more messy when used. Apply the bristles of the mascara brush to the paper towel. If there's mascara residue that's hard to remove, rub the brush back into the folded paper towel. This method can also help define the bristles of the brush.
Step 2. Clean the mascara brush
Now, soak the mascara brush in lukewarm water. Leave it for 2-4 minutes with all the bristles fully submerged. This will remove any dry mascara that's stuck to your brush.
Step 3. Use isopropyl alcohol
There may still be some mascara stuck between the bristles after you soak it in warm water. Soak the bristles of the mascara brush in isopropyl alcohol to remove any remaining mascara and sterilize it.
Step 4. Pat the bristles dry
Reuse the paper towel to gently pat the mascara brush until it dries. The brush must be completely dry before use. Store the mascara brush in a plastic bag to keep it clean and free of bacteria if you don't want to use it immediately.
Part 2 of 2: Using Vaseline
Step 1. Remove all makeup
Remove any makeup from your eyes and eyelashes. This method can help Vaseline to moisturize optimally.
Step 2. Stir in the Vaseline
Stir the top coat of Vaseline with clean fingers. This will warm the Vaseline and make it easier to use.
Step 3. Dip the bristles in the Vaseline
Pick up Vaseline using a generous amount of mascara brush. Vaseline will tend to clump up to the front of the bristles. If this happens, just use a damp paper towel to help spread the Vaseline over all the bristles.
Step 4. Apply to the top of the eyelashes
Apply Vaseline to the top of your lashes as if you were wearing mascara. Coat both sides of the lashes thoroughly, making sure they don't get in the eyes. If you want, apply a little Vaseline on your eyelids for smoother skin. This step may result in a reaction if you have sensitive skin. So, make sure to test it on the back of your hand first.
Step 5. Apply on the bottom of the eyelashes
Dip the bristles back into the Vaseline. Again, being careful not to get the Vaseline into your eyes, apply it to the bottom of your lashes.
Lashes will clump when smeared with Vaseline. However, be careful not to apply too much or the Vaseline will get all over your face and sheets. Use enough Vaseline to cover the eyelashes evenly in one thin layer
Step 6. Silence
If you do this every night, the Vaseline will moisturize your lashes, preventing them from breaking and falling out prematurely. Vaseline's eyelash care properties can help extend the life cycle of each strand, resulting in longer and thicker lashes.
Step 7. Rinse off the Vaseline in the morning
Rinse the Vaseline off your face when you wake up. Try using a facial cleanser if you have trouble rinsing it off your lashes. There may not be enough water to rinse it off because Vaseline is oil based. You can see results in just 3 days if you do these steps consistently.
Tips
- Fingertips can be used only if your hands are freshly cleaned. Otherwise, oil and germs will pass from your hands to your eyes.
- Use Vaseline if you don't have mascara but want your lashes to look naturally long, or use a lip balm that contains petrolatum oil if you don't have Vaseline.
Warning
- Vaseline in contact with the eye or tear glands can cause bacteria to move into the eye, causing discomfort, blurred vision, or eye infection.
- Watch for skin reactions. Some people show allergic reactions to Vaseline; Test your skin by applying a small amount on the back of your hand.
