A entangled necklace is very difficult to decipher. Worse yet, the longer and thinner the chain, the tighter the windings, and the more difficult it is to decipher. Unraveling forcibly can make the winding tighter or even break the chain, and the necklace will break as a result. However, with a little lubricant, a small needle, and patience, you can untangle a tangled necklace in a matter of minutes.
Step
Method 1 of 5: Unraveling the Necklace with Oil
Step 1. Find a clean area
You will need a hard, flat surface, such as a table, to untwist the necklace. A flat and hard surface will provide stability when unraveling the windings and prevent the formation of other windings.
- Make sure the selected area is bright so you can see the winding clearly.
- We recommend choosing a black or white surface so that the necklace coils are clearly visible against a contrasting background.
Step 2. Remove the hook
If the entanglement is only one necklace, remove the hook that connects the two ends of the necklace. If you have several necklaces entangled, remove all the hooks.
When the hook is removed, the chain separates so that the ends can be easily pulled out of the entangled area
Step 3. Spread the necklace
Whatever necklaces are entangled together, place them on the work surface, and take them apart so you can see where they are entangled.
Be careful not to pull it tight. If it's too hard, it could be that the windings are getting tighter or the chain is broken
Step 4. Apply lubricant to the windings
Wet the coil with baby oil or olive oil. The oil will make it easier for the chain windings to separate from each other.
Oils like baby oil or olive oil are safe for necklaces and easy to clean
Step 5. Pull the loop with two needles
Insert the ends of the two needles into the center of the loop. After that, pull the two needles in opposite directions to open and loosen the loop. Once the loop is stretched, use a needle to pull the chain in the loop. Be patient in this step. You may find yourself frustrated at having to concentrate fully on unraveling a very tight knot.
Needles that can be used for this process are small needles such as sewing needles, pin needles, or safety pins
Step 6. Clean the necklace
Once the winding is untied, you can remove the oil or powder used earlier by soaking the area in a mixture of mild soap and water. Rinse the necklace with clean water, and dry it with a tissue or soft cloth.
You can also use a special jewelry cleaner to remove the oil. Make sure the necklace is rinsed again with clean water and dry gently
Method 2 of 5: Unraveling the Necklace with Baby Powder
Step 1. Sprinkle baby powder on the loop
Reduce friction between the twisted chains by sprinkling a small amount of baby powder on the loops. Baby powder is necklace safe and easy to clean.
After you've applied the powder, consider grinding the loops with two fingers to allow the powder to sink in and loosen up
Step 2. Insert the needle in the loop
Insert the ends of the two needles into the center of the loop. Then, pull the needles away from each other to untwist them. While pulling, you can separate the necklace chains one by one.
Step 3. Clean
Once the coil is undone, clean the necklace by immersing it in a mild soap and water cleaning solution. Rinse with clean water, and dry with a tissue.
Method 3 of 5: Unraveling the Windings with a Screwdriver
Step 1. Prepare the area
Find a place where it doesn't matter if the surface is scratched. Or, add a protective layer on a flat surface.
You can use a hard book or a thick plastic base
Step 2. Insert the screwdriver into the winding
Insert the sharp part of the screwdriver into the center of the loop. Press the screwdriver into the surface until it punctures slightly. Shake the screwdriver until the loop of the necklace begins to loosen.
This method can be used with almost any small and thin object (pins, needles, etc.)
Step 3. Pull the loop
Once it's loose, you can use a screwdriver and your fingers to pull and separate the entanglement.
Method 4 of 5: Unwinding with Glass Cleaning Liquid
Step 1. Lubricate the coil
Wet the coil with a small amount of glass cleaner. This liquid acts as a lubricant so that the wrapped parts will be loose and easy to separate.
Step 2. Loosen the loop
Place the necklace in a small container over a vibrating object, such as a washing machine. Let the necklace vibrate for a few minutes.
The vibration will help shake and loosen the coil
Step 3. Describe
Once the necklace has been shaken a bit, take it out of the case and roll the loop between two fingers.
At this point, the loop should be loose enough to untwist with your fingers
Step 4. Clean the necklace
To remove Windex residue, soak and scrub the necklace in a cleaning solution made with a small amount of mild soap and water. Rinse with clean water, and dry with a tissue.
Method 5 of 5: Preventing a Twisted Necklace
Step 1. Use a straw
Unhook the necklace. Hold the straw in a vertical position, and insert the hookless end into the straw. When the tip appears under the straw, attach the hook.
- This method works best for thin necklaces, and necklaces where the pendant can be removed or moved from the center of the chain. The pendant will not fit into a straw.
- If the pendant can't be removed or moved, consider cutting the straw in half so the pendant is where it doesn't fit through the straw.
Step 2. Hang the necklace
Instead of keeping all the necklaces in one box, consider using necklace hangers (with separate branches), or make your own necklace hangers. You can use pins and bulletin boards to make unique jewelry hangers.
Remember, heavy necklaces may not hang securely on nails
Step 3. Keep the necklace in a pouch when traveling
Place the necklace in a small, sealed bag or plastic bag, and leave the hook outside. Lock it tightly until it is airtight, except for the hook area that is left hanging.
