Birkenstock is a footwear brand best known for its leather products, cork-soled sandals, and clogs. Like other shoes, Birkenstock needs to be cleaned regularly to maintain its appearance. There are four main types of Birkenstock shoes, and each type has a different way of care. You should know your shoe type first before cleaning.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Cleaning a Suede Birkenstock
Step 1. Remove dust and debris
Clean your suede shoes with a suede brush. This brush also helps clean excess dirt on the sole of the shoe.
Step 2. Use a cleaning product
Apply an appropriate amount (about the size of a small coin) to a clean, soft cloth. Gently rub the cleaner into the shoes. Apply a light coat of leather cleaner on the suede area that looks stained. Do not use cleaning solutions for suede.
You can find good leather cleaning products at shoe stores or stores that specialize in leather care products
Step 3. Let the shoes dry
After the leather cleaner is finished, wait for your shoes to dry completely before wearing them. When they are dry, re-brush your shoes with a suede brush to restore their appearance.
Method 2 of 4: Cleaning Leather Birkenstock
Step 1. Prepare your fabric
Apply a small amount of leather cleaning product (about the size of a quarter lump) to a clean, soft cloth. You will use this cloth to rub the cleaning product all over the leather surface. Give your cleaner enough so it can absorb into the leather.
You can also use a mixture of water and saddle salt. Remember, when using cleaning agents, don't let your shoes get too wet
Step 2. Remove any scuffs on the shoes
Use water and saddle salt or a commercial leather cleaning product to remove blisters. The trick, do not let the leather shoes are too wet.
Remove salt stains by mixing water and distilled white vinegar in an equal ratio (1:1). Pat the cloth soaked in this solution over the entire surface of the shoe. Repeat until the salt stain is gone
Step 3. Rub your shoes
Take the time to scrub the entire surface of the shoe with a leather cleaning product.
Use another clean, soft cloth to buff your shoes
Step 4. Dry the shoes
Leave your shoes overnight to dry well. Do not expose your shoes to direct sunlight when drying.
Step 5. Polish your shoes
Spread the newsprint at your workplace. Apply shoe polish to a clean, soft cloth and rub it over the entire surface of the shoe in a circular motion. When the entire shoe is polished, use a new cloth to clean the polish in a circular motion.
Step 6. Dry your shoes
Leave your shoes overnight to dry completely before wearing them. Do not expose shoes to direct sunlight when drying.
Step 7. Shine your shoes
Use the cloth to buff the shoes in a circular motion. To make the leather shine even more, add a few drops of water to the cloth before wiping the shoe.
Apply leather conditioner to your shoes at least once every two years to prevent them from drying out
Method 3 of 4: Cleaning Synthetic Birkenstock
Step 1. Treat your synthetic Birkenstock in a slightly different way than others
Not all Birkenstocks are made of leather and suede. Birkenstock often launches shoes made of non-leather synthetic materials, such as EVA Malibu, Waikiki sandals, or other polyurethane shoes. The cleaning process for this material is quite simple.
Step 2. Clean all the dirt
Before using water and soap, first clean large dirt on the shoes. Use a stiff bristle brush to remove excess dirt from your shoes.
Step 3. Wash your shoes
Perhaps you can remove all the stains from your shoes with a damp cloth. If the stain persists, add a drop of unscented soap. Rub a soapy cloth on all the stains on the shoes.
Step 4. Dry your shoes
Leave your shoes in a dry area, away from direct sunlight. Let the shoes dry completely before putting them on so they don't change shape.
Method 4 of 4: Cleaning Shoe Soles
Step 1. Learn how to clean the insole of shoes
Birkenstock is built to last. Clean shoe soles are very important to maintain the excellent quality of shoes for many years. This part of the shoe smells the fastest. Each type of Birkenstock shoe uses the same type of sole so that the maintenance process is similar.
Step 2. Take care of shoe soles regularly
The insole of shoes is usually discolored by soil and grass. Clean the insoles of your shoes with a damp cloth every three weeks. Let dry overnight.
If the insoles of your shoes are muddy, clean them at night with a damp cloth. Don't get the insole of your shoes too wet
Step 3. Clean with home products
You can mix baking soda and water to make an effective shoe sole cleaner. Add one tablespoon of baking soda to two tablespoons of water and mix until it has a paste consistency. Add baking soda if it's still too runny.
- Rub the paste into the insoles of your shoes using an old toothbrush. Scrub in a circular motion and clean with a damp cloth.
- Allow your shoes to dry before further cleaning. Always avoid direct sunlight when drying shoes.
